That's what I'm hoping for with my second viewing.
I do think a second viewing will level my complaint on the pace, because I can look for things in other places now.

That is 1000% exactly what happened.
Please tell us more about those meetings you were in with Kathleen Kennedy and JJ Abrams. I'd love the inside scoop!
KK: Anything else, JJ?
JJ: Um, my copy of R2 was a big hit, but I think we can go smaller. Cuter. Oh and we'll make him abused! Idiots will eat that shit up!
KK: ABRAMS YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!

Right. I'm not sure if it will change my opinion of having too many things in this movie.

Oh my god did you even watch the movie. The entire rebellion wasn’t destroyed. and they sent a signal out at the end of last Jedi. Then they arrived when the resistance figured out how to defeat the million flying Death Stars and sent the signal out.

Also within the year time frame Poe and his squadrons were roaming the galaxy finding people to join them

Look - it’s not perfect but it’s in the Fucking movie.
hah yes yes there are always more bodies. More star destroyers. more returning characters. Because none of this matters and its all very stupid, but hey, a line of dialogue explains it all away, right? ItS IN the mOvIe
You sure do post a lot about a thing that is meaningless and stupid and doesn't matter. If it doesn't matter, then why waste your time/money? Why bother showing up to troll people. Why go out of your way to piss people off? What kind of sad sack of a human are you? How cancerous and shitty is your life that the only joy you can find is to come to a Star Wars forum on a PEARL JAM message board and wave your dick around?

Don't you have a fucking comic book to write?

I think a lot of people will have similar thoughts/experiences upon multiple viewings. I know I thought the pace of TLJ was super wonky until I saw it a second time. It really settled for me after that.

Fair enough. I do think the biggest weakness in the film is how little they explain exactly what is going on with him and how it's happening. I really think that will end up being my biggest issue with the movie after it's had time to settle.

Thank you!

JJ: How can we make another Death Star, but even more awesome!
KK: Well we already made it bigger. I'm not sure how big we can go before audiences laugh us out of the theater...surely audiences have limits...
JJ: Hmm...I got it! We'll go smaller! What a twist! Just strap the laser on a star destroyer. And we'll make thousands of them. Nothing says excitement like increased efficiency and miniaturization!
KK: sigh...ok. They'll eat up anything we give them. It really doesn't matter what we do, does it?
JJ: Nope. Not at all.

After all, the great majority of the audience is not going to deep dive into the inevitable other projects exploring his backstory.

Totally. At first I LOVED that his return was dropped in the Crawl. But as the movie went on and it became clear there was no interest in EXPLAINING it... I had to consciously shake it off and ignore it. Not ideal.

I'm excited to talk to my wife about her thoughts more. She's a very casual fan who hasn't even seen RotJ let alone The Clone Wars or Rebels or read any of the books. I had to race to work after the screening today so we haven't had a chance to talk it out yet. Tonight I'll be able to get her detailed thoughts.
