The Mrs. liked it. hard to get more out of her. I was telling her about some of the larger drama surrounding this movie. Her response is that fans need to relax and not freak out about stuff.
There were a number of younger viewers (8-12) sitting near me on this viewing, and it was great watching them get sucked into the story--the things they laughed at, the moments they gasped. Really heartwarming
I had a handful of children at my first showing dressed as Ren, Rey and some BB8 clothing.
Its great. THey hooped and hollered. They dont give a shit about Luke or Lei.

Yup. And that's fine. The next generation should have their own heroes.

That was my point, yes! It also ties into the article i posted earlier. its not our star wars anymore (though it can be if you're not a psycho path).

Makes sense. For most of us our heroes in the original trilogy were the younger characters, rather than say Obi Wan or Yoda.

I remember when Dime was going on about how this was going to divide the fanbase I was dismissive of the thought. Shows what I know

I hope that everyone here actually gets to know Dime. He is so smart and wonderful.

He's wrong on the 'jedi don't give up, point, though.' Yoda gave up (within the OT), and he was King Jedi

Oni Wan did too.
THey all gave up and went into hiding. Yoda needed plenty of assurance for him to finally cave in and train Luke.
THIS IS NOT OUT OF CHARACTER FOR STAR WARS ITS JUST NOT FUCK.

He's so kind. Soft spoken yet outgoing. Genuine, reflective, and caring.
God I love Dime.

The version of the character he would write wouldn't give up, and that's fine. But his larger point about how jedi don't give up is refuted by looking at the movies themselves, where other jedi (not luke) have in fact done just that, when faced with tragedies similar to the ones Luke faced in the intervening 30 years.

I've already used, "Amazing. Every part of what you just said is wrong," about 10 times with my kids.

and Luke embracing Johnson's direction wouldn't invalidate the view of people who wished he would remain the same Luke he was 30 years prior. They're both valid interpretations of the character.

I can't wait for mine to be old enough for that to work!
I love the second iteration of that line during his fight with Kylo, and the 'I will not the be the last jedi' transitioning to the great shot of Rey levitating all the rocks.

And also....
Lukes journey in this trilogy does not negate the OT. It doenst. That still exists.
Much like lIghtning BOlt doesnt negate the fuck Pearl Jam put out Vitalogy, No Code, Yield etc...

Why is it when people make statements like this - they always forget to add Backspacer?
