I've been hearing "it's not a negative thought, I'm positive"

Could be could be. But definitely “not a”

The most miraculous thing about this song is that some of Ed's lyrics are concerned with boys' dicks and no one seems to care. I don't know if that means the song is good enough to support bizarro lyrics like that, or if their recent work was just that bad. But if that lyric had leaked a week ago, the roasting would've been historic.

I still think Eddies lyrics are so out of place on this song and it’s hilarious. The first stanza could not have been more Eddie Vedder if it tried

yeah I pointed out last night how this song made me laugh

it's got some pretty low, ridiculous points

somebody replied how it's meant to be humorous. I don't think so. It's kinda bad.. not as bad as I initially thought, listening on my cell phone speakers.. but it's kinda bad

I like the lyrics except for "I'm in love with clairvoyants 'cause they're out of this world," but even a line that unspeakably stupid sounds like it fits with this song's kookiness

If this was a new band and not a pearl jam song

Would you still like it ?
What are you getting at here?

I like Leper Messiah by Metallica. But if The Dixie Chicks performed it I probably wouldn't like it.

This song's fucking awesome. I love it.

"Their dicks and fix and file things"
 :hooray: :bammer: :worthy:

Important distinction: cover or OG artist performance?

What does he mean with:

I know the girls wanna dance
away their circumstance
I know the boys wanna grow
Their dicks and file things

McParadigm wrote:The whole end lyrical loop seems to be about juxtaposing the freeness and motion of a connection to the natural universe with the rigidity and soullessness of material drive. Dancing, like clairvoyants of the world that is, in a trance....versus builders of a world that can never fully be. Of a life founded on petty wants. A bigger dick, metaphorically or not. The inherent sense of control that comes from fixing things to be the way you want them, and filing and organizing the world you inhabit. I don’t know that the gendering of these approaches is necessarily *about* gender, or more just personifying the two ways of living in the world.
Also, “stand back when the spirit comes” fits perfect over the top of this message.

I mean are you judging this as a pearl jam song and not a piece of music.

Let’s put it this way. If you didn’t know Pearl Jam and hadn’t obsessed over their catalog would you like it? Will people who don’t know Pearl Jam think it’s good ?

Can we look at this song objectiely for a second?

It's been 7 years since the last PJ album and I know you all have huge throbbing glistening vascular hard-ons for new music.

But when the hyped has died down and the dust has died down, can we not all agree that this song is fucking ass?

- Crappy keyboard synths which have no business been anywhere near a rock band like PJ
- Vedder sounds bad - admit it, he hasn't sang well since 06
- Tinny drums
- Batshit stupid lyrics about throbbing vascular dicks
- Too long and repetitive
- Brickwalled to shit ("bUt tHeReS a NeW pRoDuCeR duuuuuur")
- The worst title in PJ memory

If everything else in your life was the same, but Pearl Jam didn’t exist. This was still a forum, and you had as many posts.

Now a new band came along. Pearl Jam. Guys in their 50s. Their first single was posted in Other Bands. Would you like it the same?
