Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, under that name, released their first album in the late 70's. Tom Petty released his first solo album, "Full Moon Fever", in 1989. There were some of the same people helping to create that solo album that worked on Tom+Heartbreakers albums.

The “I wish I was paying attention to RM over the last few months just so I could’ve participated in this thread” post.

I noticed this thread tonight. Wish I would’ve played along. I came up with a quick top 30 tonight. I’m sure I’m missing something that I’ll want to add or change later, but this is a good estimate. Cool thread. I demand a recount! Lolz

it was basically the same personnel, just depended on who was calling the shots

when petty was, their two best records: full moon fever and wildflowers
