Is it just me or does Matt seem way more committed/interesting there?
Certainly not just you.

Matt never played as well for the band as he did on those 1998 shows.

He's really on auto-pilot at this point. Man, I wonder who might be a better fit?

The audio on this video is fantastic. Well done. Bravo to this dude.

Well... except for not picking up a single solo originating from the left side of the stage.

I was about to burn this to DVD. Is it really bad without Mike solos?

I found it hard to listen to because of Ed's overall performance. It's like halfway through the first set he becomes wobblier and warblier than I've ever heard; had to turn it off during "Come Back". But yeah, the video and sound quality is awesome, especially if it's an audience recording (is it?).

So much over-pronunciation and syllable-splitting.

Skip ahead to Lightning Bolt and listen to the first Mike solo/riff at then of the first chorus. Or SOLAT. It's an audience recording definitely, but the mic picks up stone perfectly, and mike hardly at all. Somebody dubbed one of the audio recordings that's out there over the video. OUtside of not picking up Mike on audio, both the video and the audio are superb.

I messed around with it some last night, there's another audience recording where you can hear Mike a little more, but it's still tough. I messed around with SOLAT overlaying the two recordings, the combination really fills out the sound and brings Mike out a little, but not much. I'll see if I can post the mix sometime. I may try and do the whole show that way.

It's bizarre to me because I think I'd have to be putting extra effort in to pronounce shit like that while singing. I'm not an actual singer though so what do I know.

But, I mean, do you hear any other singers doing this? I'm not even American and I don't hear that.

No I have not. Maybe I should go scour YouTube for some other near 50s rock singers...

This guy's been making some pretty neat videos for years, fun to see him tackle some Pearl Jam.

That Casper show was leaked a few years ago. No idea from who, but it is definitely footage captured by one of the crew members. I think it is also on those "Flano" Tapes

I hope he does more. These are really fucking awesome. I'd like to see SBM, MFS, and Lightning Bolt.

I have two guesses about this: He turned to doing this because he got bored of the way he used to sing...OR, somehow, this over-pronounciation is his way to make up for losing his robust vocal cords. Either way, it's got to stop, as it makes every current bootleg not worth listening to.

It's interesting to be at a concert where the crowd is singing the songs like the CD versions, while ed does his warble and syllable-splitting.
