Tomorrow morning take youngest Weaseling to the high school boys state championship game. She cheers, we support the team. After that, drive across the state to her competitive cheer competition. Get back hopefully before midnight. Get up Sunday and head to Nashville to work the SEC championship hoops game (men’s). Come back home and eat corned beef and cabbage.

That's a lot of state to traverse.

It sure is. We’ve already been to where the high school game is twice this week for that tournament and I’ve already been to Nashville all the other days of the week. It’s been a long one.

I have coached every non-soccer game my kids have ever played except for, I think, one t-ball game.

The furthest I have had to travel is maybe about 20 miles.

Woah - you don't like corned beef and cabbage? I did a silverside on the weber just last week with mash and the wiffey's cabbage in cheesy milk thing and it was c'est magnifique!

I'd made my own SPG mix and used that to season the mash. It went next level.

But yes, the house was kinda rancid the next day as we all de-gassed. It was a de-gasstation meal.

Wait until they’re older. Plus they get WAY more expensive.

Nah. Growing up on a farm we had corned beef for Africa. I'm well over it by now. That and apple desserts

Braised a corned beef in Guinness and onions for an hour. Now low and slow in the egg with a marmalade and Dijon glaze. Red potatoes cooking in the leftover liquids from the braising.

Waiting 30 more minutes for final cheer comp performance. Then awards about 20-30 minutes after that. Then the 2-hour drive back home. This has been a long ass day team.

We lost the hoops game this morning. Got runners-up, second place, whatever you want to call it. I know the kids and coaches were disappointed, we were too, but they went from not being expected to really do much of anything to the championship game. The only team in school history to even make it to the state tournament, much less the championship game. Their final record is 32-4. They’ve got a lot to be proud of.
