yes thank you Trag, but you did say "virtually", correct? so I can hear when they don't; and I said this because there are two Pearl Jam albums I feel the opposite way about (LB and BS, but particularly LB), and my personal wish for this album is simply that it is more consistent in sound than those two

LB and BS have the same production values throughout as well. For examples of albums with diverse production elements, I’d look to the Beastie Boys, Beck, Kendrick Lamar’s TPAB…all of which went through the same mastering process to create a cohesive sound.

Trag, I disagree that those PJ albums I mentioned sound that way, regardless of what objective, scientific, observable processes those albums went through, and despite the fact they let you sit in on the sessions

My point is that in suggesting the consistency in production values between Dark Matter and Running is somehow a mark of quality, you’ve in fact made no point at all.

Speaking for no one else but me of course, but I think I've reached the point in my life and PJ fandom that took way longer than it does with other bands to accept that I don't care for what they have evolved into musically. This has happened with most of the groups I love in my life (Sigur Ros and Beastie Boys being the only exceptions I can think of). There are songs from the last three albums that I love, but not since ST have I loved the entire album. The songs I do love don't even make up an entire album. GSMF, Johnny Guitar, Pendulum, Yellow Moon, DotC, Never Destination(live only) are it. And I need to switch in to my brain that it is ok, enjoy the ones you do like and enjoy the hell out of the live shows, which is my favorite thing about them. With all of that being said, it is still fun as hell to talk about them and their music, even when I don't like it. I think the number of people on here who love the new stuff greatly outweighs the number of people who don't, so get used to me "turbo posting" about not liking it. Because there are some of you (you know who you are) that turbo post your love for the new stuff.

I don't have the ear that some of you do for the production stuff (although I was able to tell how over produced ST was) so my issues are more with the song style in general. And as I thought about it a lot yesterday, most of my issues with these two songs and the last few albums are all Ed vocal related.

I'm excited I'm finally ar a point I can make fun of Pearl jam a bit. On the flip side, I have a bond with them that cannot be broken. They were integral in my life for nearly thirty goddamn years. To me, truly, they've earned the right to have all the fun and do whatever they please.

And i cannot love everything and have fun mocking some stuff too!

Granted he was prolific, but Mark Lanegan is my third favorite artist, and almost 100% of his output is hit or miss. I attach myself to the stuff I love and ignore the rest, or give it an occasional listen without the burden of expectations. REM is maybe a better example since I love almost all their albums, but on each of their last 5 there were songs I wasn't crazy about. I've never struggled to move past them.

According to our poll, the number of people who dislike running actually outweigh the people who do if you are weighing your posting based on the larger distribution of fan interest.

I think Lanegan is a very strong contender for a very solid career. REM too. I would put PJ on that list of course.

People complaining of thinness should take a look at their EQ.

Get tidal or at least Spotify where you create custom EQs.
