we did get a retrack Lightning Bolt thread in record time.
I knew this Board wouldn't disappoint!

this is pearl jam's flight of the conchords record. they've just released a collection of songs from half a dozen genres, yet they seem to do all of them quite well.

yup. I had really come to like the first 6 songs we heard, and except for future days this was a very strong (probably stronger) addition to what we already had.
This is how I know I'm going to hate it.
look, KD, Burt Reynolds, and McParadigm, for the most part, had good things to say about the second crop of songs. So enough stars have aligned for at least some of these songs to be good,
When did Burt Reynolds get credibility here?
That's offensive!

My verdict:
It sucks 20,000 bags of dicks.

This stream sounds like it was made for tinny laptop speakers.
Also: I wish Infallible was more menacing. The chorus is weak sauce, but I still like it.

The high standards of a Pearl Jam apologist.

Almost 2 complete listens, and Pendulum is far and away the best thing this band has done since 2002. Very impressed with that song.
I really like Mind Your Manners, and My Father's Son too. The latter got my "most improved" after the second listen.
Let The Records Play kinda sucks.
I like Lightining Bolt the song. It's a little all over the place, but I dig it.
I know Sirens is getting hated on, but I like that one too.
Not sure if I agree with the love fest Getaway is getting. The ending is cool, but it's not one of my favorites so far.
Sleeping By Myself was a pleasant surprise. I've listened to it all of 1 time on Uke Songs, and I didn't expect shit for the full band version. I kinda like it.
Not sure what I think of Yellow Moon just yet. It's cool in some parts, but seriously, if y'all are shitting on Sirens and like this one, what gives? The solos are equally cheesy.
I'm not really feeling Swallowed Whole, or Infallible at this point.
So after two listens, the verdict is still out. Honestly, at this point, it's a slight step up from Backspacer. Not sure if I like it more than Avocado, and Ten -> RA are all better.
Future Days is meh.

I actually agree a with Wendy Carlos Twin a little. It all sounds very much like other pearl jam songs, just not as good.
But it's not as bad as he's saying either. They're not bad. Just not great. Lightning Bolt is even ok past the first minute.

Infallible belongs in a chewing gum commercial.
Does this album have an opener on it?
Pendulum?
Start with "Getaway" for the "cop-out-straight-into-hail-hail" style opener?

Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:Almost every song sounds like a bad re-write of an earlier, better Pearl Jam song. Even the "quirky" stuff doesn't hold a candle to past attempts in that vein. Not that they should always top themselves, but shit, at least do *something* creative.
Didn't you already say this two pages ago? You're really having a rough time with this one aren't you. Deep breaths WCT, deep breaths.

Digging this after a few listens. Being a big QUEEN fan, I can appreciate the miss-mash of styles on one album, similar to those late 70's classics. Someone already pointed out the similarity between Yellow Moon's opening and "She Makes Me", but also the opening of Sleeping By Myself and "'39" of Night at the Opera is pretty evident to these ears.

Forgive me b/c I got 15 pages behind on this thread now (a man's gotta eat), but are we now referring to Chud's work here as "Top Dogs?"

Well not all of the songs are barf-bag bad like "Future Days", but I don't hear a single song on this record that I would even consider "interesting". That's why I say MEH to the whole thing.

Another thumbs up for you

. I ran to it during a Ragnar Relay over the weekend (the shitty leaked version), and the 6:30 miles came out!
