Ugh. I dont know my thoughts on this other than cops are the worst. They are already protected in more ways than citizens and I feel this is a slap in the face to the black lives matter movement (i know that can be a shit show in iteself). The above quote should be utilized when referencing minorities and other citizens that do not enjoy a lot of the same rights that police officers and other citizens take for granted

Hate crime laws, in general, are problematic, and arguably unconstitutional. This one makes me especially uncomfortable.

I can't even read this thread. This stuff makes me sick. Cops are the worst.

This seems like one of the cases where physiology gets in the way of command presence and the 'suspect' ends up dead. If Im not mistaken, Mr. Sterling ended up on his back and when the cops perceived he was armed they feared that his arms were not sufficiently secured and therefore he posed a threat. We cant see his other arm, but presumably one of the cops had his leg on it or otherwise was restricting it.

After being forced to the ground, how could he comply with police commands after they dogpile him? Was there any chance he could have done anything differently at that point? I dont see how. If the cops dont provide an 'out', theres something wrong with their competence or training.

Stuff like this or the less lethal version of cops screaming at some guy to show his hands that are stuck under 500 pounds of police seem to indicate a command script that is not altered to match actual conditions.

Agreed. Maybe the officer truly thought this guy was reaching for his gun. Fine. He needs to go home safe that night. Unfortunately, everything I saw, from the initial tackle attempt to the shots fired, showed not just poor training, but anything from very avoidable mistakes to utter recklessness.

I blame the steroids.
