Someone somewhere suggested Blacksad.

TBH the stories are OK but the art is gorgeous, though a little too furry for my tastes at times.

The new Brubaker/ Phillips book, Kill or Be Killed started last week. If you're a fan of their work ( or anything by Brubaker, really) you gotta get this book.

I've been watching Justice League Unlimited on Netflix. It's pretty cool because it features just about all of the DC heroes.
But Dear Lord, the portrayal of women in this cartoon is so embarrassingly sexist. It actually pulls me out of the story everytime a sexist stereotype is thrown in my face ... and that happens just about every episode.

Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
I haven't watched Justice League Unlimited in a really long time. I don't remember it being sexist. I actually did a google search on it and found a article or blog or whatever.
https://ladygeekgirl.wordpress.com/2015 ... an-sexism/
I don't think the sexist aspects can necessarily be excused but I think they can be explained. Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl are supposed to be outsiders from warrior cultures and the best way the writers could show that is to have them react to earth woman in a fish out of water way. Lazy probably. Older white men writing comic book stories typically aren't going to be able to channel the female experience accurately.

I've been turned on to some really good stuff lately. Descender, ODC, Saga, Y: The Last Man, Limbo, Bitch Planet, and what is probably my favorite so far, the absolutely ridiculous and over the top God Hates Astronauts, which is one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
- The whole Vixen/Hawkgirl/Green Lantern love triangle was awkward and embarrassing. There were all sorts of absurdities that resulted from their inability to deal with their past love for him.
- The relationship between Huntress and Question and Batman and Wonder Woman are all ridiculous. And all the relationships are more passionate from the woman's side with the man not caring so much. Like a woman can't fight next to a guy without falling in love.
- There was also an episode where the Legion of Doom brainwashed all the women in the Justice League and made them fight in an all-women-Justice-League battle for entertainment. One guy even recommended "Chick Brawl" for a name.
- Lex calling Amanda Waller a cow.
- Treating Supergirl like a silly little, lovesick girl even though she could eliminate life on Earth if she so chose.
- I know the outfits are pretty much dictated by the comics, but Jesus. Every woman fights nearly naked.
- Something about how the Flash treats woman too, but I can't put my finger on an example.
I should have been taking notes.

Fair enough. Maybe all that wouldn't have stood out to me if this hadn't been a cartoon.wease wrote:You do know Lex is a bad guy, right?B wrote:Lex calling Amanda Waller a cow

I don't think he did any Punisher. Mostly just Daredevil and some odds and sodds. Garth Ennis is your guy for Punisher.
