I didn't, but a year or so ago someone here turned me onto Faraci's website, and I've always enjoyed his reviews. We have a lot of similar tastes and I generally find myself agreeing with him, and even when we don't (he was iffy on Force Awakens, for instance) I find him fair and can see the merit in his criticism. But it's not like there are a lot of other people I read where I have a huge basis for comparison.

I wouldn't say read his reviews as pieces of art criticism, but in terms of a reviewer I can use as a probable surrogate for my own experience he's up there.

probably.
Why? His insights are basic and his writing style is artless and obnoxious
see my response to DcT. I'm using favorite in terms of 'tastes likely mirroring my own'

That makes a lot of sense. I've actually never been particularly fond of the whole "movie reviews as pieces of art criticism" thing anyway.

To me those are different things. I enjoy art/film criticism. And I enjoy reviews. But I don't seem to enjoy those that try to be both.

Leto does suck. I don't understand his appeal.

I heard rumors that this was bad, but wow...

Aren't most of the reviews saying he's really good though? Just underused and/or pointless because of the wonky script?

the ones i've read generally say he's good, but it's not like people are saying he's a revelation. Will Smith and Margot Robbie are the two characters/performances that are universally praised. Based on the trailers I was expecting Robbie to be too much of a 13 year old boy's fantasy, but apparently it worked well in the film

I read one review that hated Robbie's performance for exactly that reason.

If it weren't for my friend (who loved BVS) saying this is terrible, these negative reviews would only make me more excited. But I don't know what to think. Really curious to see this Thursday night.

Like BvS the reviews have basically sealed the fact that I won't see this in theaters (same for Apocalypse, which I've still yet to see). But I am looking forward to your take, LV.

I don't usually read many reviews. Even these I've only skimmed. It doesn't stop me from wanting to see it but it doesn't adjust my expectations a bit. Which is probably stupid. I'll see it and decide for myself. But, like Stip, I'm no longer going to make a point to see it in theaters. If it works out, fine. But I'm not going out of my way now.

We're part of the solution, Joey. As long as international audiences featuring Theplatypus insist on seeing all these movies we're gonna keep getting them.
