Why is it when people make statements like this - they always forget to add Backspacer?

you're absolutely right. Lightning Bolt doesn't negate Backspacer!

Baffling considering this laser centric thread.

I gotta admit, the bit about Luke's characterization and the affect on the saga's narrative in that Hamill interview is bothersome.

That was my point, yes! It also ties into the article i posted earlier. its not our star wars anymore (though it can be if you're not a psycho path).
I remember when Dime was going on about how this was going to divide the fanbase I was dismissive of the thought. Shows what I know
I hope that everyone here actually gets to know Dime. He is so smart and wonderful.

Oni Wan did too.

THey all gave up and went into hiding. Yoda needed plenty of assurance for him to finally cave in and train Luke.

THIS IS NOT OUT OF CHARACTER FOR STAR WARS ITS JUST NOT FUCK.
Didn't ever really think about this. Luke just did what his mentors did. When you're the last Jedi alive and entire armies are hunting you down, what else is there to do but go into hiding? Didn't Dagobah even drain or suppress Yoda's connection with the force? Much like Luke on Ahch-To?

Lightning Bolt didn't call Sirens, Black part 2. And the things with albums in this day and age is you just keep what you like. Songs stand on their own. I can enjoy Pendulum without ever having to hear Sleeping By Myself. I'm not going to pretend I'm going to sit and watch the OT annually or anything, but next time I do, I won't be able to do it without thinking of where these characters wind up.

Ultimately, this is exactly how I felt after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - it's a sequel I wanted but hoped would never get made.

Jesus Christ! I say shit like this in over half my posts?! I think if you go back to the early 400s of this thread, I said I thought dime was a good dude. Quoting that was just a joke. Even LV laughed at the original last night.

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/why ... 54984.html
Luke almost killed his own father and fought out of anger all the fuckin' time. He force chokes a guy to death in rotj. He was always a grey Jedi, how is it so shocking to believe he'd have a fleeting moment of fear towards the darkness rising in Ben. Not only was it super powerful and scary, but also had the potential to destroy everything. And then it did! All because he ignited his lightsaber over his sleeping nephew. For just a second, he pondered doing something awful to prevent more and more even more awful things from happening, trading his nephews life for the safety of the galaxy. And then it all goes to shit because of that one tiny thought that popped into his mind because Luke wants to keep everybody safe, his friends, his family, his students, his temple, whatever.
He didn't ignite his saber just because of the darkness in Ben, he ignited it because he had so much to lose. His actions caused by his desire to protect everybody got everybody killed. How did the Jedi ever let Luke down? Yoda and Obi-Wan gave him everything he ever wanted, adventure, an epic life beyond being a farm boy. A Jedi seeks not these things, but we all know Luke did. The Jedi failed him just because they lied about Vader? Big whoop.

Obi Wan never gave up. He was tasked with watching over and protecting Luke (from a safe distance). Luke's story does mirror Yoda's, however. It makes for it to as well, but I understand why it's a major point of contention

I'm not trying to appease LV. I probably disagree with more of his posts than anyone on the board. But he's a great devil's advocate and necessary shit stirrer, and sometimes when the RM Justice League takes the bait, they get ugly and a little exposed. When that happens I'm compelled to join him and kill the past, you know?

Luke's fear of failure led him toward the dark side and the new Jedi Order's undoing. It's why he shut himself off from the force. It's a conceivable narrative for his character, but I get why it's not a popular one.

Obi Wan gave up. Yoda told him to go into hiding. Yes, he wached over a baby, but one of the most powerful jedi in the universe just decided to go live in a cave to watch over Luke? C'mon. He just destroyed the jedi killer that was grievous. At that point he was sent into hiding, and the remaining powerful jedi/sith in the galaxy was yoda, palaptaine, part Vader, and Obi Wan. Thats it.

The jedi gave up because they felt shame. The Jedi gave up. Obi wan and Yoda gave up.

I have never felt more like a dork than now.
