The Knights of Ren really paid off, huh?

I liked them. I’d rather a mystery than everything explained.

There’s already too many characters in this film imo.
Zorri was kinda wasted but contributes loads in the small amount she is in it

Zorri was a minor character but LOADS more developed than the Knights of Ren who were being built up since TFA.

They should've just skipped 'em, but they spent all those marketing dollars letting us know that they were gonna be in this movie.

I never care what reviewers think. If I look at a public score I would rather see the audience score.
It should go without saying but of course neither should matter
Indeed.
Spot on. I don't give a fuck about what anyone else thinks about movies. I make my own damn mind up.

This review is pretty spot on, though I enjoyed it for what it was quite a bit more. But his points are totally accurate.

But C-3PO’s story highlighted my big problem with the sequel trilogy. As selfless C-3PO proves willing to sacrifice his mind so his “friends” can reach the final boss, it’s heartbreakingly obvious that his companions don’t struggle with the morality of the decision, at all. It’s played for laughs, but it's a bit depressing that they view the droid as merely a machine, rather than a friend.

And that’s the real problem here - these people are not friends. They’ve been thrown around by explosions and dodging lasers together, for a long time, but they’ve never opened up to one another. Their vulnerability has always been physical, never emotional. Finn and Poe have that “bromance” thing going on, but they don’t really know each other, do they?

The plot brings these characters together, pushing them in the necessary direction, but never connecting them. And I think that, above all, is the failure of the sequel trilogy.
Also, now that im thinking, was the first order even the bad guy in this movie or did it completely just switch to palpatines army? I dont recall if the first order really had anything to do with a majority of the main battle? or perhaps they were one in the same. I really dont recall.

I really don't know what they could've done with the material they had, but yikes, that was incredibly awkward. I don't think her

death
made any sense.

Probably should've had her die off-screen between TLJ and TROS.
We've already discussed it but I thought it worked better than it had any right too.

And her death, I thought, was incredibly impactful. I thought it was pretty masterful.

What about it didn't work for you? The dialogue aside, which I don't necessarily disagree with you about.
Between her out-of-nowhere death (addressed above), all her disconnected response dialogue, and the fact that the lighting and color grading made it so she looked literally copy-pasted in from a different movie makes me think they really should have come up with a different solution to the Carrie problem.

I just don't know what that would be
I see. I think that's valid. The dialogue is the thing that sticks out to me the most. The dialogue feels largely (though not entirely) cut/paste. Or at least it's clear to my ear knowing the real life facts. If Carrie had died during production, for example, but they still did the exact same patchwork, maybe it wouldn't have stood out. Maybe I wouldn't have been LOOKING for it and therefore it wouldn't have felt so obvious.

But her look is fantastic, I thought. I had no issues with the visuals. She didn't LOOK cut/paste to me except in the one shot of her holding the light saber the first time. That didn't quite line up. But the rest tricked my eye completely.

I hear your issues with the "out of nowhere" death. And I do think it could have/would have been handled better had Carrie lived to film the movie. But again it worked for me. It didn't feel out of nowhere at all. She used the Force in a powerful way and it drained her. We saw the same with Luke in TLJ. And, though it's not stated in the films, we know from books & comics that Leia was massively weakened by her Force use in TLJ.

What she does in that moment is emotionally resonant and so powerful. I love that Leia, even after believing that her son is gone, listens to Luke and uses what little life/strength she has left to reach him. It was just beautiful. Such a wonderful scene and message.

But I do understand that it could have still been even better. It's not perfect. But again, real life got in the way. And given the real world restrictions, I think it all works so much better than it should have.

Personally, I would have recast the part. I know that's not a popular opinion. But still, that's what I'd have done.

I agree with that. I would say this sequel trilogy is a beautiful flawed and messy one. Their main failure is to come up with characters we care about and they care about.

In ROS they try to sell the idea of Together so hard its laughable. WE GO TOGETHER...Please. This is from a very cool review of Birth Movies Death:

¨The truth is, this trilogy has never felt quite right. The first film retold A New Hope with a cast of very charming characters who felt like revisions more than creations. The Last Jedi did a lot of good things but it couldn’t fix that foundation. And now, at the end of it all, we’re still reaching toward the original trilogy for an emotional connection to this material because it generated so little itself. I find Kylo Ren interesting and felt curious about how things would end up between him and Rey. Looking back, I realize this film cured me of that curiosity more than resolved it¨

Also agree.

Talk about this more. What setup is there actually in TFA? I keep seeing people voice this same criticism (not saying it's invalid) but I don't see it the same way. This feels like the whole "who is Snoke REALLY??????" speculation all over again. Fans and internet videos made a big deal out of the Knights of Ren. The Force Awakens did not.

Some value in that review, for sure. But I disagree that their vulnerabilities were never emotional. Hard disagree on that.
