The AL teams have three days off before the ALDS starts. The NL teams have four. That's plenty of rest.

I would like to see a three game series as well, but it doesn't really make much sense, especially since they need a day or two here and there in case of rain-outs or tie-breakers.

A one game play-in is fine to me. I don't get why one team making it and the other team missing entirely is perfectly fine but two teams making it and playing a single game is seen as such a travesty.

I wouldn't call it a travesty, it just cheapens making the playoffs (like the poor Pirates in 2014 and 2015). A one game, winner takes all format doesn't work as well in baseball where a good or bad night by one player can severely impact the game.

But that's what I'm saying: how does it cheapen the playoffs when the only difference is that the two best non-division winners have an equal shot instead of one just missing out entirely?

Plus, it makes winning the division significantly more important.

The last thing the division winners want to do is rest more.

What is the argument here? I want to weigh in with my opinion.

Is the current playoff format awesome or does it suck?

I would prefer a best of 3 for the Wild Card, but if it's a binary choice, I go with the current format.

I agree with this. I like the two wild card teams versus just one, but with it was a mini-series rather than a one off.

I have two problems with a best of three for the wildcard:

First, it further delays the start of the divisional round, hurting the division winners who earned what should be an easier path through the tournament.

Second, it makes it less of a crapshoot for the wild card winners which, while that makes baseball sense if the round existed in a vacuum, actually diminishes the value of winning the division instead of the wild card.

Basically, the current system is better than the old system and better than any reasonable system I can think of to replace it.

It wouldn't delay the divisional round, they are already taking three days off in between. At worst, if there is a rain out, it might delay it one more day.

Those teams in that wild card have to go through three games, while the division winners get to line up their pitching, dont see it as not rewarding them.

I want to see a three game series: one game in the second WC team's stadium and a double header the next day in the first WC team's stadium.

It's way too complicated (especially if an east and west coast team got in), but the drama would be amazing to watch.

I agree with chud, though: the one game play-in is the best reasonable option.

Also, this last week of baseball has been really stressful. I don't know if I'm going to make it through tomorrow's game.

Apparently 22 years of no contention made me ill-prepared to deal with a tight stretch-run.

Yup.
You're forgetting the travel day mid round, and the travel day at the end of the round for the wc winner to get to the city of the awaiting division winner.

They'll be too busy cashing those checks from those two extra games to even care.
