I haven't read anything about this today, so I can't be sure, but: there's been this story going around for years that when the showrunners met with Martin to discuss the series' end, he revealed 3 plot points to them that made them say, "Holy shit." They've confirmed that two of them have happened: the burning of Princess Shireen and "Hold the door!" I am wondering if Arya killing the Night King is #3. If it is, then I don't think it's on the level with the others. I also wonder (and this is a post I'm planning for the book thread soon) if there will even be an analogous moment in the books, since there is no Night King as of yet.

I'm going to say it's not the third thing. Benioff kinda tips his hand on that in the post-ep interview (at least, that's how I took it).

I'll have to watch that, I almost never do. From what I recall, they had said the third moment was from the "very end."

Ghost doing fuck all was among the biggest disappointments of the episode. I thought he’d do something awesome and then die for budgetary reasons. My derp wolf was more active during the 80 minutes than Ghost.

Ghost helping lead the (what was CLEARLY always going to be just a) sacrificial charge was weird. Like, why the plan for him to guard Bran? That makes way more sense.

Yet, the book series it is based on is called A Song Of Ice And Fire, and only the first book is called A Game Of Thrones. The last book is called The Dream Of Spring. And both the series title and the the last book, sound more like they are concerned with the threat from the north. But I do agree, that it's good we'll get three episodes after they are gone. I think three more episodes of fighting them would have been too much.

I know I'm prone to hyperbole. But I spent much of a sleepless night last night and a lazy morning today trying to think this through and I think I can safely say that what I saw last night with Arya's storyline was the most visceral experience of joy and satisfaction I've ever gotten from any piece of art. It was sheer perfection all the way through. What I felt inside at the end... I've never gotten that from a book, movie, or TV show before.

Even if the final three episodes fall flat, I'll always be grateful for last night's experience.

I think you can let go of the "salt and smoke" stuff in the show. They don't seem too concerned with all of that.

I actually thought the score was one of the few weak elements of the episode. So much of it was stunning and literally spectacular but I didn't like much of the music. Especially that song at the end that goes on for about 12 and a half minutes while the NK walks in slow motion for the full three and a half miles it takes, for some reason, to get to Bran.
