Cool. That's what my wife thought as well and that makes sense. I was wrapped up so much in everything that I missed it. When he didn't actually DO anything, I was confused.

Also, the crypt stuff. God! I loved the juxtaposition to the Battle of the Blackwater. In that battle, Sansa is locked away. Young, innocent, naive, thinks everything will be fine if they just pray and stay positive. She things she's somehow doing her part. Cersei is cold and brutally honest about the situation.

Then here, all these years later, she's locked away again, this time with a different Lannister. And while Tyrion isn't naive or innocent, he is agitated and unsettled. He thinks he should be doing more. He's just as nervous and maybe even afraid as Sansa was back then. However, this time Sansa is the realist. She understands the situation. She is Cersei now.

But when things look like they're going the wrong way, Cersei's answer is to run, hide, and kill herself. Sansa's solution to the same problem is to buckle down and fight and try to save someone.

This episode was so fantastic. I loved how character driven it was. How it called back to things they'd laid out before but without being obnoxious about it. Everyone had massively important character moments where we got to see who they really are, what they're really made of.

Brilliant. Satisfying. Glorious.

Reading the internet today has been kind of hilarious. My main take away from the public at large that hated the ep...

"Ugh! I wanted people to die! No one died! This show used to kill people all the time! I thought more people would die but no one did! Remember when this show used to subvert expectations! WHEN WILL THEY SUBVERT MY EXPECTATIONS AGAIN???"

That and the whole "this show used to play in the gray areas, nothing was black and white, nothing was cut and dried morality but then the white walkers showed up and it became your typical black hat/white hat good vs bad morality bullshit and I hate that so much.... THEN THEY KILLED OFF THE THING THAT I THOUGHT WAS SO POORLY HANDLED IN THE FIRST PLACE THAT I ALMOST QUIT WATCHING YEARS AGO WTF WTF WTF... so what is this show supposed to be now? just some moral ambiguity about a chair????? OUT"

I follow w few different forums for GOT and it was nice but also depressing to see the reactions the past few weeks shows and last nights.

People just cannot he Fucking pleased. They want to complain. At length. Ad nauseum.

And there’s millions of these joyless fucks.

It would get you down if you let it.

Also, how fucking MAJESTIC was Arya losing her weapon, getting overcome by very real fear, and having to go back and rely on all her previous training -- her sneaking, her chasing cats, her water dancing -- in order to get through that scene in the library? FUUUUUUUCK.

And I admit I'm being reductive and generalizing. There are plenty of people who didn't like the ep for super valid reasons that they're able to support really well.

But those voices tend not to demand to be heard, so the idiot/absurdly loud voices stand out.
