It appears that Lucasfilm handed Epic Games and Fortnite a bit of cutting-room dialogue from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to use in this weekend’s in-world gala event with director J.J. Abrams. What Fortnite players got was not a deleted scene, per se. But taken literally, it does create the impression that the movie is referencing events that took place inside Fortnite, which is hella weird.

Well, that was a lot. I somewhat liked it but not fully satisfied either. I thought it got off to a good start and zipped right along but the final act was a let down. There was goobly gook and jumps I didn't follow or convenient coincidences or plot devices. But there was some resolution and a (seemingly) finish to the series.
The Disney trilogy definitely had it's moments but feels a jumbled puzzle as a whole.
Now I have pages of spoiler commentary to read.

I had low expectations going in because the sour taste TLJ left in my mouth.

This thing is a mess. This whole trilogy was a mess. I’m sorry I just can’t get into this ST and new Star Wars. Scenes jump from one to the next, you don’t get to savor a scene, it’s straight onto the next scene/plot. Character lines are basically plot exposition or talking about hope or whatever the theme was of this movie....good people will come if we lead them? Power in family? Don’t under estimate droids? I’m being a bit facetious but you get the idea.

Palpatine is back. We’ve known for awhile via spoilers but seeing it on screen doesn’t work. And when Poe is explaining Palpatine is back, jeez.

I understand how people like that the Force gets more deep and involved and more powers are explored in the ST,but it really feels like it’s a crutch now for superhero moves that just make plot resolution easy.

Leia felt out of place, but I think that’s just me knowing she was dead before being filmed and the articles talking about using old footage to bring her back. That’s my problem and I understand that. The thing that made me feel her death was actually Chewbacca’s reaction to her death.

I actually liked D-O. I thought I’d hate him but his quirky lines felt genuine. Shrug

Then you get everything and the kitchen sink at the end. Zorri and Babu Frik in the same cockpit. Ha!

Things I did like. Chewie. Lando (when he wasn’t talking about the hope or good people will come), Zorii, would have been interested to see her dynamic with Poe over the course of a trilogy, not crammed in one movie.

First Order was slightly more menacing? Final Order stuff was lame and everything with Palpatine. Even opening the top of the planet to show Rey the battle going on? I mean it’s almost the same as ROTJ.

Luke was ok. Han was weird. The Han scene was good, but feels so out of place in a Star Wars film.

I need to sit and think more. The adventure felt back, way more than TLJ, but felt more Indiana Jones and Goonies (?!). I dunno. Like I said preface this with knowing that I really only gravitate anymore to the OT as the framework for good Star Wars. I think the movies from 77 - 83 where a lightning in the bottle type of experience. Once in a lifetime.

Production wise, it was great looking.

Still thinking but I’d probably give this a 6 out of 10. Finishing the trilogy up, I think this actually drags my enjoyment of TFA down.

JOHN WILLIAMS AS OMA TRES: The 87-year-old composer of the Star Wars saga films has 263 musical credits, but never before appeared onscreen until The Rise of Skywalker. John Williams plays a bartender with an apparent mechanical eyepatch, working his trade in the rough and cold world of Kijimi, which is like an ancient Himalayan town tucked into a space iceberg.

Williams doesn’t have any lines, but the credits name the character as Oma Tres — an anagram for Maestro. What’s really interesting is the shelves behind him. Many of the objects there appear to be references to some of his past films.
