Heat and moisture make the mask more effective at catching respiratory droplets.

Why did trump get killed for talking about herd immunity? People realize that's the only way out of this right? Obviously based on the assumption it is accelerated by a vaccine.

Well, for one thing he keeps calling it "Herd Mentality" and no one corrects him.

And the second aspect is that the consensus seems to be deaths in the millions before any level of herd immunity can be obtained (if it can even be obtained).

I understood him to be talking about non-vaccine herd immunity, which would leave several million americans dead.

I'm not a proponent of "letting it rip" but it's impossible to know how many people would die in that type of a situation. The case numbers aren't accurate. How could they be? Do we really think everyone who is asymptomatic or carrying mild symptoms is running to get tested? You can't get a math equation right if you don't even have the data.

Oh he was defo talking non vaccine herd immunity.

Interesting Trump's also just again contradicted his own head of the CDC on both a vaccine timeline and the usefulness of masks. Apparently the head of the CDC "misunderstood the questions" he was being asked.

Any vaccine under this current administration will be a rushed train wreck anyway. And it looks as though anywhere from 20 to 50% of people will refuse it at this point.

Having said that, I don't think I'd be agreeing to any vaccine rushed through at the moment either.

The US's economies of scale actually work against you here. 330 million people is a huge undertaking, both in manufacture and then actually getting people vaccinated.

You just know Trump is going to fuck this up, like everything else he touches (or ignores) around Covid.

The problems this has raised in public health care and workers rights is astounding. To get enough testing you need to have a financially secure population who don't fear being sick and all that entails (pay, housing, healthcare bills). As soon as one of those are compromised the entire system is in jeopardy.

Even with all of that in place some people are reluctant to get tested. Hell, I wouldn't get my 6 yo tested on a whim. But if we can get this newer test with 15-30min results, we stand a chance of conducting mass testing in hotspot areas.

Do people think Trump has a chemistry lab in the Oval and is making the vaccine himself? He doesn't have anything to do with vax development. Of course he selfishly wants it rushed but my eyes roll out of the back of my head everytime some Karen says they aren't going to take it. All you will need to do to feel at ease is listen to the experts and read the data that will be made public on the trials. Or is it "listen to the science" when it comes to face diapers and not a vaccine that has been developed with billions of dollars by very smart people who are highly invested in making a fortune long term by being successful in their goals?

Maybe "herd mentality" is really just people who circle jerk everything around to what political side they are on?
