I predict this album will have the coolest ideas since Binaural mixed with the shittiest production since LB

there will be no cool ideas on this one

they busted those nuts on gigaton

now it’s a return to paying-the-bills form

the one thing that makes me hopeful is that Eddie might listen to Watt a bit more. Watt is a PJ uberfan who also loves Gossard's riffs and might push Eddie towards some of those riffs that previously never made it to a PJ album because Eddie wasn't feeling it. Painted Shield proves that Stone has still a lot of creativity in him.

It's not that I don't like Ed's rockers, I mean 'Who Ever Said' was great, but after WWS, Severed Hand, Gonna see my friend, Swallowed Whole, Getaway, Who Ever Said, Superblood Wolfmoon and Never Destination Im a bit bored hearing those chords....

yeah, i also think both Stone and Jeff are confortable with Watt. Stone was featured in the Iggy Pop album recently.

Im just concerned with the mix and sound of the album, specially when Gigaton sounded so fucking good.

no offense, wtf are you listening to? swallowed whole is mostly driven by an acoustic guitar. the bridge in 'who ever said' is the longest part of the song, swallowed whole sounds like it has a pretty normal structure.

I'm sad to tend to agree with this take. But will gladly be surprised!

Watt will have no part in that process whatsoever I'd have thought. The band submits song ideas and Ed picks the ones that inspire/interest him. I doubt Watt would even be in the same building when Ed's sifting through the ideas.

That said..... the early reports were that recording sessions were much more improvised this time. Jam sessions in the studio. So that suggests that we could be getting more collaborative songs - Save You and Hail Hail were both written in that way, which might indicate the direction they'll be going in for the next album.

Yeah, that's true. The fact that Ed's gravitates more to one idea than the other has become the band's modus operandi. And for some reason Watt seems like a guy who would question that more than other producers.

That does sound exciting. Some of their best songs were done this way, like 'Tremor Christ'.

Yeah the band jamming together to get ideas rolling is pretty ideal.

exactly

they were all cool jam sessions and then Ed and the Producer came in and it turned into an auto-tuned Cher tribute album
