When I imagine "Lightning Bolt" sung by Yield-era Ed, it literally makes me ache, makes me shake with a mountain of regret.

Ive thought from the minute we heard the wrigley version that the song needed to be recorded by yield pearl jam to realise its full potential.

totally agree. on this record, there exists some of their best songs. some of these songs are just (imho) over produced. too much wanky organ / piano crap - lightning bolt is a good example of this.

I wasn't really talking about production, although I generally agree. The faults in Ed's singing are Ed's fault. Having said that, the liner knows list Boom as playing keyboard as well, so I guess we don't really know how much of it is BoB, or if it is all BoB, why Boom is in the notes.

I began to love LB after the Fallon performance.

I'm enjoying it more than I ever thought I would at this point.

Did he mess up the song? Because I don't know it but it sounds fine, nice even. It's the voice really, If he still had that voice/sang like that hed probably 'get a pass' more often.

Lol, well thats the awesome power of a full bodied vedder. I didnt notice shit. And I dont think he has to be drunk for any of that, just casual to the point of half assing shit.

Well, i dont care if he's drunk or not as that wasn't my main point.

I think he sounds terrible there but the whole period is romanticized in all our minds. We were kids and in love with a band but I think the shit they get mocked for her nowadays has been prominent throughout their career.

Yeah..I think its more about Eddie figuring how to actually play guitar than being drunk. He's way better on the guitar nowadays than he was back then. In my opinion. Didn't really see anything other than that on here. Besides..I can't fathom how hard it is to pay attention to my chords when there's a sea of people in front of me.

Im willing to bet that had there been an Internet a youtube and a red mosquito back then there would have been a few people complaining then too.

Im liable to prefer older versions of songs just because I love eddies tone of voice back then, the 06 version of this is good though, and the guitar is much better. Anything post 06 has to be awesome enough to cou teract any of the weird pronunciation things etc. I think theres a good version from the solo shows around somewhere.
