I've learned to really love Ed's vocals on this album. He's like a pacing, caged animal trying to repress his anger/disappointment that ultimately realizes that they won't be released.

My only sense that there was ever an issue with Ed's vocals on Riot Act is from other people complaining about it. I think his vocals on RA are great.

Sure, but it also seemed to be the broad perception during the album's release. I recall multiple conversations with complete strangers in concert lines about how the album felt phoned it, tossed off, not something they put any energy into. I would now rank it as somewhere in the top three, given the day, but at the time everyone seemed to be like "yawn."
There's definitely a weary, haggard vibe to a lot of EV's delivery, but in retrospect it feels like a conscious choice.

It's too bad he listened to the critics because his delivery on S/T is a little too rawk.

And considering that’s when the redo vocals on Hold On took place, those other people can fuck right the hell off

I can't find it but I remember an interview with Stone after the albums release referencing Ed throwing on what the band thought was a place holder vocal only to find out that he wasn't' going to go back and record. Another example of Vedder making what seems in the moment to be an odd or wrong choice, but ends up serving the music and band well.

You have to give TJ credit, his album ranking is certainly...unique.

Weird - I wonder why they pulled it?

Probably a good time to let you all know I've just updated my Riot Act [Deluxe] set to include 'You Are (Live at Chop Suey)' :nice:
