yeah, its super fun
I love how she finds different ways to say that she definitely doesn't consider herself a musician. Gives a lot more weight to her songwriting and performing as just one appendage in her entire body of work.
yeah. Kim's art sensibilities are so important for SY and at the same time, she is a way more interesting musician in SY than in any other music adventure.

Pattern Recognition has to be one of the best songs they made.

There are three distinct moments at the end of that song that just blew my mind wide open the first time I heard it. Each one a feedback swell after a gigantic snare bang. The sound just flows and morphs all over your headphones and never seems to end. Hell of a way to open an album.

Nice one. The warm, humming amp immediately before that moment gets me too.

Are we possibly reaching consensus on yet another "best representation" SY song?

Pattern Recognition was pretty hard to play on Guitar Hero

Sister should be next.

Based on that list and in general.

The later stuff is certainly good. I'd go with Murray Street if you're looking in that direction. I think Sister is the most essential album out of things you're missing, though. A lot of what you hear on Daydream Nation and Goo starts to get developed on Sister, and it's just an all around great sounding album. They recorded it with some cool analog technology which makes it sound kind of warm in a way that nothing else in their catalog does.

You really can't beat Schizophrenia>Catholic Block for a 1-2 punch.

Tuff Gnarl, Pacific Coast Highway, and Kotton Krown are all must-hear songs as well.

On paper, Goo always feels like that to me too. But then every time I actually listen to it, I love it. There are a lot more nooks and crannies that I forget about, but it's definitely front loaded with bubblegum (minus Tunic.) It has a top 5 Lee song on it with Mote. Mildred Pierce has a great bass line. Scooter + Jinx is pretty out there. Disappearer, Titanium Expose, and Cinderella's Big Score are all unsung gems.

I love Dirty. Maybe its because it was my first SY album? But it also feels so energetic and wild. And that era from the band is awesome, playing all those shows and festivals, hanging with Neil Young, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr....

Hey VG, I played parts of this mix today on my run. The last third (from teen age riot 'til the end) was perfect for that. I forgot how good the guitar interplay is on Drunken Butterfly. Thanks for the reminder.

Much of this mix is kind of mellow, which lets the loud and fast tracks stand out. The pacing is good for that. Love that you were able to bookend this mix with a b-side and SYR. Much :luv: to Tuff Gnarl and Hoarfrost too.

Going to spend more time with this mix soon. Thanks for putting it out there.

thanks!! Im still working on it, but yeah, lots of cool songs there. I kinda wanted the more volatil and energetic songs from the band mixed with a few of those super long cool jams.

Both Tuff Gnarl and Hoarfrost are favorites! and fuck yeah, they are so tight in Drunken Butterfly, really its something else.

After listening to all that Fugazi for the last month, then hearing Drunken Butterfly, I totally get your comparison in the Fugazi thread.

"Like a more focused SY"
