Going through some old family slides I was converting, and came across this. I absolutely love this picture.

Pulled the trigger on a Sony A7 this morning. My brother's getting married in Poland next year and is looking to save a little money, so he asked me to be the wedding photog. Figured it was time to replace my 4-year-old RX-100 anyway. I have a friend who does wedding photography as a side business, so I'll tag along with her a few times. Will probably buy an additional 50M lens before my brother's wedding.

Quick question for y'all. I'm about to take a few trips in quick succession and have been wanting to purchase a nicer point-and-shoot camera (with a big optical zoom) for my travels so that I don't have to lug my DSLR and a bunch of lenses around. I haven't started looking yet, but before I do, I ask you: is there even any point to buying a higher-end point-and-shoot, or am I better off just using my cell phone's camera (which at that point will likely be a Samsung Galaxy S8+)? Your input is appreciated

The Sony RX-100 is pretty much the gold standard for small point-and-shoots. You can find the Mark I for around $400. It won't give you much in terms of zoom, but it produces great images, particularly if you shoot in RAW. Excellent low-light performance. "Superior Auto" is great if you don't want to worry about manual settings.

If I remember correctly, you're a big dude. It'll easily be "pocketable" for you.

It is responsible for my current addiction to photography.

I just read a couple of reviews and it looks pretty great for what I'm looking for. Found a good "gently used" one for a steal-- I'm going to check it out tomorrow and if it's really "like new" as they say, I'm pulling the trigger. Thanks

My one issue with it is the charging system. You have to charge the battery in-camera using a USB cable.

You should think about buying something like this. You'll get two extra batteries and an external charger.
