I have two candidates for "Best New Podcast 2016". Beautiful/Anonymous and Giblets Heavyweight (which I like to think of as a spiritual successor to the dearly departed Mystery Show)

Let me know if you find any dead links. I was planning on marking defunct podcasts, but it's actually harder to categorize than I thought--like, if a podcast is simply "finished" (like, for example, the Andy Daly Podcast Pilot Project), I don't think it's fair to call it "defunct." But if there's something up here that was usually daily/weekly and just fell off the face of the earth, let me know.

Alice Isn't Dead? Huh. It's a good story but it took so long to get interesting. It almost lost me.

The groups third podcast "Within the Wires" was worse as far as that goes. I finished it because hey, it's only 10 episodes, but that ending...I'm still not sure who was what and I really don't care enough to figure it out. It was a somewhat ridiculous premise that seemed interesting and then got progressively more Nightvale-lite in their body horror and then just got silly by the end.

The other show on their "network" is The Orbiting Human Circus and I couldn't even get through the three preview episodes. The cast is amazing on the whole but the sum of the parts is just so bland.

I did, and I plan on giving it a look. By the time I got to college, Buddy was already in jail (for the 2nd time) so the age of the wiseguys was coming to an end. Would be great to learn more about it all.

I started this tonight, and as I hit play, I thought, "I can't wait until they talk about the time Buddy beat the guy up with a fireplace log when he was mayor."
Spoiler: show
It was the first fucking thing they talked about! Listening to Episode 2 and the Dungeons and Dragons stuff now; holy shit.

I really enjoyed BEE with the girl from Against Me! A pretty insightful conversation. The same with Duplass.

And WTF with Casey Affleck was great.

We might've talked about this already: is anyone here a Howl.fm subscriber? I'm thinking about it, because there are behind-paywall podcasts I'm interested in and it'd be nice to listen to some shows ad-free. What's the app experience like, especially on Android?

I loved the wtf podcast with Hetfield. It was really, really good. Nice to hear James so relaxed and goofy.

The Ron Howard episode is excellent too. Lots of stories.

Yea, these were both really good.

Ron Howard seems like such a class act.

Hetfield was a fun one, even for a casual fan like me. I really appreciated hearing about his father's neglectfulness, his mother's death at the hands of cancer/Christian Science, and his resulting anger around this time and how he channeled into music. The reconciliation he had to make between "Home James" and "Road James" is a familiar story to me, but he told it with a refreshing honesty and lack of romance.
yeah, i loved hearing about his family life and stuff. It was really nice...and Ron Howard, man ..what a life.

The exclusive podcasts are awesome, but the app is a battery killer. I use the unofficial rss feeds (https://howl-rss.128.io/) and just add the podcasts to my regular podcast app.
