Man, I dislike Cruz, but really what's he going to do? I get that the optics are bad and opponents love a good social media pile-on, but I wish everyone wouldn't take up the algorithm's bandwidth with unimportant shit like this.
It will get cold here. We get at least one of these freezes every year. Roads will probably ice. Some power might go out. Texas will survive without a congressman senator physically in the state, I promise.

I have no problem pointing out to Texans that their Senator is an elite asshole that can afford to run away and go on vacation while their only choice is to suffer and die.
One might also add that there is any number of things a rich Senator with connections up and down the political spectrum could do to ensure that Texans have access to water, food, generators, heaters, etc. Fuck, he could just go out and shovel a neighbor's driveway, or more likely pay his driveway guy to do the neighbors as well.
Or, y'know ... "If my people have to suffer, I will suffer with them!"

If the state of Texas gets in such bad shape after a 24-36 hour hard freeze that the physical presence of one US senator is the difference between life or death, then the system is indeed fucked.
Emergency response in Texas is decentralized. Ercot, TXDOT, and local governments would be the ones who have the big responsibility and accountability in this potential weather situation, and trust me they have plenty of well-documented issues that we should actually get mad about.
I do agree that Cruz shoveling snow would be a great photo op for him and his team, but he'd probably still get dunked on like he was JD Vance ordering in a donut shop at this point. He's just not a "suffer with his people" kind of politician, but apparently voters don't mind.

We’re well aware that Ted Cruz is useless, it’s just a stark reminder that our politicians are often self interested individuals that are in office to use their positions of power and influence to better their own lives.

The midterms may still save us.

That seat has been blue for decades. Our governor held up elections for as long as he could because replacing Sheila Jackson Lee (RIP), then (briefly) Sylvester Turner (RIP) with another Democrat was always going to happen.
Not saying a congressional blue wave isn't imminent, but if you're unfamiliar with Harris County politics, the dems getting that particular seat isn't the signal.
