Luckily this looks like white savior western, and the timing as awful for that. Hopefully it ends his career.
Bill Durham gets him a pass from me.

I'm not sure Trag knows what a white savior movie is.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. His acting and overall career is just so ....milquetoast......to actually hate him feels rather personal. Total indifference feels more healthy.

He’s saving his pretty blonde girls from bows and arrows, and seems to be partnering with some “good” Indians along the way, what am missing?
Usually involves the hero "going native" and helping the oppressed minority overcome the evil white villains, or helping them in some other way that they couldn't help themselves. Avatar, Dances With Wolves, Hostiles, Dangerous Minds. Even The Creator is basically a white savior movie, though the lead is black.

I couldn't really tell what was going on from the trailer.

The Last Samurai is actually a great example of a movie that appears to be a white savior narrative but really isn't

how so? is it because they ultimately fail, although heroically?

it feels cheap in my memory in the way Braveheart does.. like a teenage boy's war-hero epic fantasy. you might like it
