Informative

People who found the episode difficult to see (too dark) should download some calibration clips and test patterns and use them to check their TV settings. For example:

Proper calibration is more in-depth and requires specialized equipment but some of the above patterns should at least get your brightness and contrast settings into the right ballpark.

It's worth noting that many tvs out of the box have a lot processing enabled by default : contrast boosters, "black enhancement" etc. These tend to render a picture which may seem more 'impressive' to the layman but can be very inaccurate and result in crushed blacks etc. Any of these 'vivid' or dynamic picture modes should generally be avoided.

Another common issue is mismatched HDMI levels, where your source (eg laptop, streaming stick etc) is sending a 0-255 signal but your TV is set to 16-235 or vice versa. This will result in a crushed or washed out image. The name of this setting varies by TV. Calibration clips will help to diagnose a mismatch.

Like I said, we have different rubrics/perspectives on this stuff. In a story that deals so much with ambiguity and grey morality, I can find plenty of room for Arya (especially) and Dany. Noble causes may be hollow to some but in the world they've created, I believe they are meaningful. This is all super complex stuff with no easy answers and that's what I like about it. Reducing each character to "killing innocents" or "bad" or "good" is missing the forest for the trees, I think. Or at least, it's not a very compelling argument to me.

Yes, I don't think we'll agree here either. Jaime is no innocent angel, but it's difficult for me to see the reasoning behind him being seen as worse than people with countless lives on their hands, not killed in battle, but just because of what family or class they belong to.

The way Sam was handled in this ep was perfect.

Going back to this... watching the BTS thing I mentioned... the director talks about how at one point they "ran out of stunt guys to throw at" Sam and so he literally (the actor) just sat down and started crying and they thought it was so brilliant that they kept it in.
