I don't know if BoB is stopping them from recording other tracks, Pendulum was a backspacer outtake BoB didn't care for, they just worked on it without him ( and came up with some of the more interesting music they have in a while imo). Didn't Eddie say something about not whoring out b sides once?
Ten: Wash, Footsteps, Yellow Ledbetter, Dirty Frank
Vs: Alone
Vitalogy: out of my mind
No Code: Black Red Yellow, Deadman
Yield: U, leatherman
Binaural: nothing
Riot Act: Down, Save You, Other Side
S/T: Nothing
Backspacer: Nothing
Lightning bolt: nothing
Ten, hands down, wins the best b-sides debate. Thanks Stip.
i think this is when they were writing songs on acid. they should go back to that.

severed hand, marker, yellow moon, swallowed whole off the top of my head all have imagery and ideas similar to ayahuasca use. im pretty sure eddie vedder talked about doing it when they first toured south america in like 2005. severed hand is pretty specifically about it, but it think the other songs all have similar themes and ideas tied to it.

Interesting. I dont consider Marker to have that type of imagery...but yeah, SH and maybe YM too...Actually i havent payed attention to some of the lyrics of the new album, SW being the first example.
What are your thought on Yellow Moon? whats about?

He said in an interview at the time of release that it was him "imagining" what it would be like to take hallucinogens that he was curious about, but didn't think it was appropriate for a father to be experimenting with. That seems to contradict his claim that he started writing it at the same time as I Am Mine, but it's possible that the lyrics were all written near the time of recording.

i think its about an out-of-body experience, like looking at earth from somewhere between the earth and the moon. i also think its about being able to see into some sort of afterlife without actually dying, the bridge specifically. its like he was shot out of his body far enough to see the parade to the afterlife, but he's not far enough out to go there. this is all stuff people say happens during an ayahuasca trip.
i think marker is more about the day after the trip, and its no coincidence its right after 'severed hand'. its like you've seen part of the potential humans have, and how people fucked it up w/ organized religions.
SW is pretty clearly about tripping imo.

Nice thoughts. I can see that on YM...and i like that idea of Marker being like a continuation to SH.

I think it's about getting out of your skull on something and seeing a bunch of shit because you've taken a substance. Then, posing questions and drawing conclusions that you think are really profound but really you're on drugs

This got me to thinking that a Pearl Jam/Phish show would be really cool. Especially if they collaborated on a few live numbers....

The fact that he called that album "techno" was already hilarious.

I picture it being a lot like those Bruce Springsteen early 80s demos when he discovered synth drums sounds but didn't discover how stupid they sounded.

there is a certain kind of idiocy that is only available to the very clever.

Agreed. What do you think Ed thinks "techno" music sounds like?
