The first Ted is one of the worst pieces of shit ever made. Every single thing about it is infuriatingly awful. Fuck.

The Ted movies are better than How to Die in the West. They are decent comedies.

I saw Ted. It was okay. I laughed a few times. Haven't seen Ted 2 or How to Die in the West. Haven't felt much of a pull to see them, either.

And I tend to like Seth's humor.

macfarlane is a decent actor when he's not doing comedy...i liked a lot of the cast, but other than a few amusing moments here and there this was mostly trash

It was fun but kinda unfulfilling. All the storyboards and artwork and mock ups were amazing. The behind the scenes stuff, the costume fittings and such, were great. But it was poorly directed and edited and it still managed to leave a ton out. And the sound was really blech. LMS is gonna be pissed if he ever sees it.

Too much time was spent with Kevin Smith retelling a story we've all heard before. The director should not have appeared on camera. Ever once. Especially during interviews. He's so awkward and distracting. He just nods and nods and nods and clearly isn't listening to anything. He look bored as fuck the entire time. Even while sitting next to Tim Burton. Just so weird.

But I enjoyed it for what it was. I wish it had been better and more professionally done. Maybe someday we'll get a better and more competent take on the subject.

It's a movie I've been lusting over for decades. This didn't do enough to satisfy me. But it's something and I appreciate the time and effort that went into it. And it's nice to see so much of the artwork.

It's a bummer he didn't get (did he try and get turned down?) modern day Nick Cage to appear and share some thoughts/memories. That woulda been fun.

I still think this movie would have been one of my all time favorite superhero movies.

I'm sure I could just Google this, but do you know if Gilroy's script is available online? I know many of K-Smith's have been around as long as there's been an internet. But I've never seen Gilroy's.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

my sister was obsessed with it, and i remember watching it when i was 12 or 13 and feeling more engaged than i expected to be...i haven't seen it since, so just wondering what the general consensus is

The Good Dinosaur was pretty mediocre. It didn't really deliver emotionally, the animation seemed to be a weird mishmash of styles and the score was ridiculously overbearing in spots. It also seemed way too repetitive. How many times did Arlo's dumb ass fall off a cliff only to be caught by trees?

I marathoned the Rocky series over the last two days. I liked all of them (I'd seen them all before, but it had been many years since I last saw 2-5). I enjoyed them all, but here's how I'd rank them:

How did Rocky V get such a high ranking?

Ha, I figured someone would bring that up. I appreciated its decided return-to-roots approach. While I liked 2-4, I think they strayed from the character drama that made the original great, and became much more boxing movie. V tried to get back (though not entirely successfully) to what made the first work. It's essentially a layered father/son drama with boxing as an undercurrent. Hell, it doesn't even have a climactic boxing scene; instead, we get a gritty street fight! I liked the change in formula.

almost perfectly matches the line-up.
The original Rocky is just a great movie. Rocky II is able to emulate that feel, and maintain the integrity of the Rocky character. Both movies end well.
III gets a little messy, and is home to the worst scene in the series: the match v Hulk Hogan. But the training with Apollo Creed is so eighties-weird, I kind of have to love it. The belly sweatshirts. The close-ups of the running thighs. The frolicking in the waves. That scene is basically what elevates it above IV for me.
III and IV are weird, but they're basically good movies. V is not. I appreciate that they are trying to return to the Rocky character that was sort of lost/morphed over the last two movies, but I think ultimately that fails. He seems like the old Rocky, but he's not the same dude. And the father/son stuff is weak. Just not enough in this movie to bite into.
Rocky Balboa is better at resurrecting the original character, and I appreciate that he loses at the end. But the premise of the movie is weak. I never bought why Rocky would get back into it. In the first five movies Rocky has a real reason to fight (to prove to himself what he's made of, for America, to defend his honor, etc.). The only rationale offered for why Rocky gets back into the ring in Balboa is because there's "something in the basement", or there's "a beast inside". Which don't really make sense. This was the first time where it felt more like Rocky was fighting to prove something to other people than to prove something to himself.
And the whole idea of a heavyweight champ that people hate because he wins all his fights by knockouts instead of decisions is a little silly.
best moment of the series: I think it's Rocky III, the final fight against Clubber Lang. Paulie gives Rocky a drink of water and Rocky just spits it right into Paulie's chest.

I really enjoyed the whole series, and I can't wait to go see Creed this week.
