Re: What movies are you watching?
The movie is a pretty great adaptation. But the book is special. The whole thing is told from Jack's POV. Some of the changes they made make sense given the difference in mediums but I think overall the book is stronger and I missed some of the literary elements. The Argonaut wrote:No, but I'm going to now.
A couple of the changes didn't quite make sense, but they're fine. The author of the book wrote the screenplay, FWIW.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I rewatched Prometheus last night, and had my original opinion confirmed: aesthetically stunning (to the point where it plays like a classic in that respect - maybe the best digital cinematography ever), but dumb as a bag of nails. Just staggeringly awful in terms of themes, characters, and writing. Which is such a shame, because there's a great movie in there that's screaming to get out. So glad Scott is gonna make more of these with different writers.
It also occurred to me that I would love to see Ridley Scott make a Middle-earth movie.

Yeah, I have the same love/hate relationship with this movie. If he goes the way it is rumored he is going for the follow-up, then I am very excited for it.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I rewatched Prometheus last night, and had my original opinion confirmed: aesthetically stunning (to the point where it plays like a classic in that respect - maybe the best digital cinematography ever), but dumb as a bag of nails. I liked Prometheus. *shrugs*
It's certainly not a great movie but I've never understood the hate. It was fun and mysterious and I enjoyed it.

I heard that the plot of the next one is going to be someone travelling to the Engineer's planet. Is she the main character? Has Rapace been cast yet?LoathedVermin72 wrote:Also, "barren woman" plot devices are the stupidest, laziest things ever and I hate them with a passion.
