Ok now, do I actually love this big, cheesy rock chorus in Won't Tell?

I love this part from the Rolling Stone interview with Wotman:
So the idea was instead of being like, “Okay, guys, here’s my fully fleshed demo with drums and bass, and here’s the groove and here’s the vocal idea,” the idea was “Okay, who’s got a riff, a start, or a chord sequence or two? Let’s not listen to the demo. Let’s sit all together in front of each other and play the idea, show everyone else the chords, start writing.”

When that happens, I know Stone is going to play chords that are completely unconventional, and don’t make sense in the best way. And Jeff’s going to figure out how to make it harmonically possible for Ed to sing against. Mike is going to rip and take us into “Reach Down” territory. Matt is going to be able to set the groove and ride, make the band go wherever he wants to go. I want to have them start there, and give each member the ability to do that. And it was literally how we got every single one of these songs.

Watt would have to be an RM member if he was such a fan, wouldn’t he?

He’s here somewhere. Gotta be.

By the way, heard something about it being your birthday?
Not sure if it's today, or, sometime this week, but, a new PJ album is a great gift...make it a good one...enjoy!

Edit: joostone, agree 100%. Love that bit.
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Just got back from a morning walk listening to the phone recording and man oh man do I love this thing. Something Special even got to me. They are soaring again.

They've always been labeled as "anthemic" but if you think about it, after Ten/Singles most of that went away, give or take a "Given to Fly." This album does that again. Closest comp is probably Yield, but it does new things.

Really excited to hear a proper recording of this.

Incredible how the tide has fully turned against Trag. I've never seen such reputational self-sabotage since the great Argo schism of 2016

The title track is probably the worst song on the album.

That moment in the record store was transcendent. Had just heard the best Pearl Jam I’d heard in ages, and then the WFS riff starts and you’re like, “Oh, fuck…”

This happened to tree and others when Gigaton was released. Don't remember if Trag was one of the trolls then too. I'm all for criticizing pj, and basically disliked most of their music from 2000-2013. But Gigaton and now DM give trolls very little to work with. Sure, production. Probably 90% of us would rank the records as we already do regardless of production.

I mean it will still have absolutely murderous production choices. It just happens to have really good music.
