I'll respond to this in more detail when I'm off a phone. It's there - I just don't think it matters.

"The originals" are of varying quality. Asking if this one is as good or better or worse is stupid. Maybe it's as good or better or worse than one or two of them.
Don't worry, its safely outside of both the three originals and the three prequels. It was made for the middle. middle. middle. middle. The most middling movie ever created. In fact, if you ranked every movie ever made, this would sit squarely in the dead center.
Have you seen it yet, Burt?

I think it would be faster to list the ways in which it didn't mirror the first one. I'm struggling to come up with a single original idea in the movie.

Again it's not that there arent similar themes or plot points. There are - but I think they're part of the basic storytelling language of this universe, and they were all well executed

Stormtrooper defecting. It happens in the first 15 minutes.

So you feel there aren't other stories worth telling in this universe?

I loved the movie, and I'm sure my kids will too. Sure it's echoing the original in ways, but it could've been worse: they could've made a reboot.

I never thought the universe was that rigidly defined at all. This is lock step. I'm not saying it doesn't need Jedi or storm troopers, but fuck, ANOTHER Death Star? Jesus.

Doesn't Solo's parenting end up making another Darth Vader?
