it is a miracle that that lyric didn't destroy the song for me. It's terrible. But it somehow skates by. The clairvoyants lyric later on works much better

is this their biggest surprise since "who you are"? "the fixer" was a bad surprise, "nothing as it seems" was a different but not this different. am I missing anything? this seems like the biggest left turn since No Code.

There is clearly some gender politics at work in this song, but it's a few steps removed from the conclusion it wants you to reach. You have to work for it (that is not a critique)

Definitely. The difference is I didn't want Who You Are when it came out. I was ready for DotC!

Ed's voice inflection and delivery in the first two verses is very similar in style to David Byrne's delivery on a number of TH songs. You can hear it to some degree on the most well known like Psycho Killer or Once In A Lifetime.

Ok, Im going to bed. I think I've listened to it at least 20 times today.
Now on my second listen through good studio headphones....and OH MY......handclaps, percussion, layered synths, acoustic guitars and even more buried vocal harmonies in both the chorus and outro...

I must've listened to this song 10-15 times and my initial joy hasn't dimmed one iota. It's so much better than I ever expected.
