Listen to Velveteen, Omaha and Hanged Man. Listen to them each three times and then report back.

Nope it's true.
Did you get an email notification that it had shipped? Or is this a total surprise?

I like the second half better, but it's entirely possible this just isn't for you.

It doesnt grab your attention until Velveteen on. After that its pretty great. Shake Your Head Yes is the stand out along with Velveteen, Omaha, Hanged Man. In the end the first two records are much more complete and satisfying for me. I have no problem with it stylistically though and would put it right up there with the first two if side A wasnt so forgettable.

I'd go to the Schubas show if I didnt already have so much going on. Plus every time I go into the city I blow a ton of money. What is the show like this tour? Lots of solo stuff or does she flesh things out with a backing band?

I was this close to getting tickets for the Schuba's show -- just can't commit to it right now, the time as much as the expense. The layout of the venue pretty much guarantees that you'll get to meet the band, though -- my first time seeing the Decemberists was at Schuba's in 2004, and we got to chat with everyone in the band for at least 10-15 minutes afterwards.

I don't have many "concert regrets" but I really wish I'd gone to see Amy Winehouse there in '07 or so.

Yeah schubas is pretty great. There is no backstage. You either exit through the side door and walk around and back through the bar or just go through the crowd. Depends how friendly with the fans you are.

I just checked with my better half and it turns out I am now a 'Yes' for Schubas. So if you change your mind let me know KD, I'll buy you a beer.

Awesome -- what's the date again?

The 19th of Sept. There was a beer I had the last time I was there a few months ago that was very hoppy. I can't remember the name of it but I seem to recall it reminding me of Nazi Germany for some reason. My girlfriend is allergic to beer so it would be nice to share some camaraderie while imbibing with someone.

There's a band. Have you ever seen her live? If not I highly recommend it.

I definitely agree that the album kicks into high gear with velveteen. But the front half has Believer and Say Something which I really like, and the opening track is fantastic and sets up the album the same way the Generals opener does. Semantics has grown on me a bit too.

I'm going to start from Velveteen next time. I tried from the start the other day and again I was left rather unmoved.

I had listened to some of their songs before and they didn't really catch my attention, but I'm listening to the first record now and it's fucking killer.
