Man, I think Varis has one of the strongest teams in this competition, it's a shame he's up against one of the few I'd rank higher. What a pisser.

Team, we just made it through an 80's draft without a single Journey song.
In a way, we're all winners here.

Is Stip just gonna throw away his last pick in every one of these things?

1. Durdencommatyler vs. Delima
Durdencommatyler
1. Tom Waits - Time
2. Prince - When Doves Cry
3. Talking Heads - And She Was
4. R.E.M. - It's The End Of The World As We Know It (and I feel fine)
5. The Clash - Rock The Casbah
6. Pixies - Monkey Gone To Heaven
7. Stevie Wonder - Master Blaster (Jammin)
8. Beastie Boys - The Sounds of Science
9. Michael Jackson - PYT
10. Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer
Outstanding first 4 songs. My favorite Prince song (and possibly my favorite song from the decade), a top 5 REM song, an outstanding tom waits song, and a strong talking heads song. The 5-8 run doesn't do much for me, but it's not offensive. PYT was a nice late round pick.
I hate bon jovi, but I can appreciate its 80sness.
Strong team from DcT. We'll see how he does. I wasn't a particularly huge fan of the two teams that made it to the finals. I think this is his best lineup yet.
Delima
1. Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal
2. NWA - Fuck Tha Police
3. Talking Heads - Crosseyed and Painless
4. U2 - Running To Stand Still
5. Guns 'N Roses - Patience
6. Tom Waits - Innocent When You Dream (78)
7. Mother Love Bone - Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns
8. Bruce Springsteen - My Father's House
9. Neil Young - Rockin in the Free World
10. Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead Or Alive
Excellent Tom Waits (first TW song I liked) and U2 songs (that was very high on my list). I don't like Neil Young but RITFW is okay. I like the Chloe Dancer pick, and that's probably the best MJ song you could have gotten that wasn't on Thriller. There were better GNR choices. I think I'd say the same for Springsteen. Your Bon Jovis cancel each other out,but I do respect the picks. I think DcT got the better talking heads songs.
There are no problems with DeLima's team, which is solid with a few imaginative choices. But there's more to excite me on Joey's team.
Vote for DcT
2. Bada vs. Rangi Guy
Bada
1. Prince - Lets Go Crazy
2. Michael Jackson - Beat It
3. The Police - Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
4. U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday
5. Def Leppard - Photograph
6. Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf
7. Genesis - Mama
8. Van Halen - Panama
9. Huey Lewis And The News - If This Is It
10. Billy Idol - Dancing With Myself
Outstanding 1 and 2 pick. There are two police songs I kinda like and that's one of them. Never been a fan of Sunday Bloody Sunday. There were lots of better U2 songs out there. Not a Def Leppard song I like but like Bon Jovi I can respect the pick. And I really like the way this team embraces 80s cheese from that point forward. Other than Mama these are all guilty pleasure songs. This would be a great party mix.
Rangi Guy
1. U2 - One Tree Hill
2. R.E.M. - Turn You Inside Out
3. Prince - Sign O' the Times
4. Faith No More - Epic
5. Echo and the Bunnymen - Killing Moon
6. Soundgarden - Hands All Over
7. Salt-N-Pepa - Push it
8. RUN-DMC - It's Tricky
9. Genesis - Home By The Sea
10. Metallica - Masters of Puppets
My very favorite U2 song. A favorite Prince song, though Bada's was better. There were stronger REM songs (a lot of them) but Turn You Inside Out is still a great song. The middle three is okay. Nothing offensive but nothing to excite me. I like the Salt N Peppa pick. Not a big genesis fan so those two canceleach other out. I do dig the RUN DMC pick. Master of Puppets is probably my favorite Metallica song.
This is very hard but in the end I'll vote for Rangi whose highs were a bit higher. I think I'd rather have Bada's mix from start to finish, but Rangi managed to nail my favorite songs from a former favorite band and a current top 10, and had quite a few no slouch picks to round it out.
Rangi, but barely
3. DSb1218 vs. Birds In Hell
Dsb1218
1. R.E.M. - Begin The Begin
2. The Replacements - Can't Hardly Wait
3. Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock - It Takes Two
4. Tracey Chapman - Fast Car
5. Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over
6. The B-52s - Love Shack
7. INXS - Need You Tonight
8. De La Soul - Me Myself and I
9. Bruce Springsteen - I'm On Fire
10. Yello - Oh Yeah
I like how this team drew from so many different 80s wells. Begin the Begin is one of the best REM songs. I'm on Fire is my favorite thing on Born in the USA. And the rest of this mix is full of pretty fun, iconic songs, plus Fast Car, which is great, but not fun. It reminds me that Luka was also on my short list. And Oh Yeah is the kind of 10th round choice I can respect!
Birds In Hell
1. XTC - Senses Working Overtime
2. Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls
3. Sonic Youth - Schizophrenia
4. Kate Bush - Cloudbusting
5. Mission of Burma - That's When I Reach for My Revolver
6. The Cure - One Hundred Years
7. King Crimson - Indiscipline
8. Severed Heads - Dead Eyes Opened
9. Yoko Ono - Walking On Thin Ice
10. Wipers - Youth of America
For Whom the Bell Tolls is quite possibly my favorite Metallica song. Historically its been Puppets, but give the choice today I'd go with that. Otherwise the rest of this mix is going to places that aren't really in my wheelhouse. They're not bad picks. They're just not for me. I love your number 9, though.
Vote for DSB
4. Koopee27 vs. Varis
Koopee27
1. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
2. Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime
3. Queen - Another One Bites The Dust
4. The Cure - A Forest
5. Beastie Boys - Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun
6. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Runnin' Down A Dream
7. Depeche mode - Personal Jesus
8. Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
9. The Police - King Of Pain
10. Megadeth - Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?
I'm not a fan of the cure or the beastie boys, but that doesn't make those bad picks. The rest of this list only has one song I wanted (once in a lifetime, which was my first round alternate), but these are strong choices from top to bottom. This is quite possibly my favorite team outside of my own. I wouldn't be surprised to see Koopee win an unprecedented second title.
Varis
1. The Jim Carroll Band - People Who Died
2. The Clash - The Magnificent Seven
3. The Cars - Drive
4. Violent Femmes - Add It Up
5. Pixies - Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf)
6. Howard Jones - No One is to Blame
7. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - The Mercy Seat
8. The Church - The Unguarded Moment
9. Hunters and Collectors - Say Goodbye
10. Midnight Oil - Power and the Passion[/quote]
Some nice songs in here (people who died, a surprising first pick, drive, add it up) but this was mostly full of songs I didn't know and while I listened to all of them and some were pretty good, they aren't enough to stand up to the koopee juggernaut.
I would just like to say I am VERY disappointed in team australia for not drafting an AC/DC

these are all totally serious picks. They're not serious songs (well the star wars theme is, I guess), but they're serious picks. Yakkity sax is one of my favorite pieces of music, the star wars theme is fantastic, and while perhaps you had to be there, Axel F was such a cool fucking song. It was totally iconic.
Can an American who lived through the 80s back me up on this?

Axel F was the last song on the 80s mix I didn't use for the secret mix tape, btw. I've also listened to it like 10 times in my car since we started the draft. That takes me back.

If your best defense of a song is "it was super duper famous!" then you know it's probably garbage
