I was so sad to hear that Mystery Show was cancelled.

Did you enjoy Homecoming? I thought the story needed a little bit of work, but I'm definitely interested in more shows like that.

I don't have enough podcast-time in my life incorporate fiction podcasts into the rotation, unfortunately.

It can be listened to in it's entirety if you ever find yourself on a round-trip commute that lasts a couple of hours. Though you're not missing much if you put it on the back burner, unless you're a David Schwimmer completist, which I'm guessing you are not.

The exclusive podcasts are awesome, but the app is a battery killer. I use the unofficial rss feeds (https://howl-rss.128.io/) and just add the podcasts to my regular podcast app.
Thanks, this was super helpful! As I've mentioned before, I'm an old iTunes/iPod fogey, and after signing up for my free trial I just added everything to my iTunes feed. Woo!

Has there been much discussion about ads on podcasts? The approach that Gimlet shows take (let the hosts read them, give it personality, gloss it up with a unique-to-the-show ad theme) is awesome. Some of my favorite moments on Reply All have been the recurring joke in an ad about I forget what (guess the ad didn't exactly work, in the strictest sense) where PJ refuses to meet Alex's new baby. Some other great Gimlet ads out there too.

And of course, the famous Mail Chimp ad from Serial.

I'm currently enjoying the low-budget, poorly read awkwardness that is the Hewlett Mattresses ad on Star Wars Minute. Reminds me a lot of the PSAs read by stoned late-night grad students that used to come on KTRU between Múm songs.

Man, I used to sit in on my brother's radio show in college and we would play an ad for "Save the Tigers" featuring Bill Cosby like 4 times per night.

PFT probably does ads the best, since they're in character and refer to things from previous episodes.

"Stranglers," the new Earwolf podcast about the Boston Strangler(s), is pretty great. Through listening, I discovered that my wife was living in a building where one of the murders happened when we started dating. Spooky!

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

When arrested, the man most widely believed responsible for the murders was living in my hometown. So you're not too far off, trag.

I hope they keep doing these. I'm starting to hate podcasts. Like I hate Star Wars and nerd culture in general.

Happy to see Starlee Kine (RIP Mystery Show) join some of the crew from Serial. All the better that this podcast is going to be about Alabama.

The story wonk series on Tolkien has been excellent thus far. Better than the Star Wars series. It's renewing my appreciation for those books

This series just finished, and I can't recommend it enough. In the final episode, the host returned to the BU dorm where one of the victims was murdered and they, like, waited in the vestibule for a student to let them in and described the whole place--very creepy. I am still not the Boston Strangler, trag.

Having seen him in a few documentaries as well, I don't think that's him so much as he tries too hard to be "on" all the time.
