It’s all a fitting tribute to lord of the rings though. Arya killing the night king/Eowyn killing the witch king. (No one can kill the witch king/ a girl is no one. - No man can kill me / I am no man)
Gathering forces before the last desperate attack at the main evil. Cersei/Sauron.
Elephants / Oliphaunts.
If it follows, the smallest of all brought down Sauron. Sam Frodo Gollum. Depending on your take.
Tyrion and Arya are the only two small people I can think of

It’s a wonder his estate haven’t sued!!
Only one divergence I noticed very early.
No tobacco. Nobody smokes in Westeros or anywhere on that sod.
He very cleverly realised ‘they’ll be onto me if I write that. I better not!’

The dragons aren't very good at being deus ex machina. They mostly just get killed.

My one complaint is that they don’t fuck up the army of the dead enough

I don't think they are Deus ex machina at all. If anything they are opposite. They've been raised on the show as something everyone should fear, scary monster that hasn't been seen in years. But they don't really save the day, they mostly just now act as pretty horses for Jon and Dany to prance around on.

speaking of, was that the first (and last) time the night king's facial expression changed (when he smirked after dany tried melting him)?

I feel like they didn’t have any strategic thought with striking first with the Dothraki. Isn’t it a wise move to let the other enemy come to you when you’re outnumbered? That was the original intention in the battle of the bastards with trenches and spikes to keep them from being flanked.

Sure. But the larger point is that there's no reason to rebuild it.
joe, how do you know that?! that's been my point all along with the lack of answers on how, after being defeated the first, the long night returned at that moment in history. who's to say that it won't return again, and when?
This has already been covered.
And I'm not sure why I'm unable to articulate this... I guess I'll try again? ... I'm specifically addressing your concern but illustrating my earlier point about context and common sense.
You asked a question. I said it's pretty easy to find a common sense explanation even if the show doesn't explicitly give one. This is my common sense, logical, conclusion. Just like Mecca said. Read his previous post. He and I are literally saying the same thing.
I don't KNOW anything. I'm using the information given to form logical conclusions within the context provided to my own satisfaction. Clearly you coverage disagree. So fine. Let's devote 2 of the final 3 hours of the show to addressing The Wall and contact disputes.
Obviously you care about having explicit answers more than I do. I don't need them. So, I hope you get them, my man. I really do. But to me, this isn't a mystery.

But why? It sucks that now we'll never know how well the NK slept before the battle and what other things made him smile and whether or not he had a favorite breakfast cereal and if he enjoyed the Breaking Bad finale as much as B did.
