since there was no thematic reason for Arya to wipe out the undead army, they should now have Jon Snow kill Cersei. Just void any reason for this entire show.

Jons good at inspiring but not great at leading effectively. So you might see him sacrifice himself and finally be of some use in doing so. Him killing Cersei though?

You just know he wouldn’t be able to when it came to it. Doesn’t have the stones.

I come back to the theory that Jon and Arya both planned to get to NK and it doesn’t matter who made the kill just as long as it was done.
I love the idea he was distracting the dragon at the gate in order for her to get past and get in to kill him

Jon is actually a very competent leader. He makes difficult decisions, trusts his gut when the time comes, defers to others, etc. He just operates in a world where tradition/birthright holds a lot of sway.

His strategic warfare skills leave a lot to be desired however.

I agree more with this, than with Dime's take on it.

He's a good man, like his uncle Ned (and probably his father Rhaegar), and only kills when he has to.

THats the problem though. He’s too noble and high minded. Which is fine until you’re against unknown quantities and unscrupulous opposition. He planned a typical martial response which is doomed to fail against a chaotic army of the dead that can’t be understood.

He’s about to deal with Cersei who isn’t playing by any rules at all whereas he is bound by them.

He’s about to deal with Cersei who isn’t playing by any rules at all whereas he is bound by them.

Ned did win the last war, and Jon is doing well so far in this war. Yes, Ned fell into a trap in the end, but that was out of love for his friend. Jon has no such problem in regards to Cersei.

I guess it’s a moot point cos he’s gonna defer to Dany whatever happens. And she’s lining up to be easily as ruthless as Cersei I’d say.

The trap was going to King's Landing as the hand of the king. He fell into the trap because of his honos and his sense of duty, and his love for his friend. He died because of it.
