Interesting thing I just noticed is that the only region Trump seemed to lag in was in the West. The only Western state he absolutely crushed Clinton in (i.e., greater than 60%) was Wyoming. Perhaps a generation from now the West in general is a Democratic stronghold.

Of course, the Dems would need to flip Texas too in this scenario, of which Clinton did better than Obama did.

I posted several times about understanding their plight given how I grew up in an area with one road and 32 houses. I have a few friends who still live in that area. So I know of their plight and the lack of empathy. The problem is that while I can empathize with their plight, I also know that there are a lot of reasons for it.

For example, big business being told it's cheaper to take manufacturing jobs overseas and screw the workers who live here. Big business being told it's better to go to this state or that state because of the tax breaks and then said state can't balance their budgets. Big business being rewarded for firing people instead of finding a way to make money and keep the same number of employees (like lowering C-level salaries).

I could see MT getting there by the 2024 election. You think Idaho is remotely close, though?

Trump only did 3 points better in ID than in MT. Of course, Clinton did 9 points worse, but in this hypothetical it takes the combination of increased marginalized Hispanic populations (much bigger in ID than MT), increased urbanization (Boise metro is way bigger than any MT metro), and LDS members becoming increasingly disillusioned of a Trumpist GOP (though this would obviously affect Utah way more than any other state.) A lot has to be in line, but weird shit happens during any political realignment.
