Boyega said that not many scenes were cut(of his anyways) but lots of little link scenes were cut. Dialogue stuff. I think that's very apparent. As I said in my initial take, either there are big gaps in storytelling or JJ is expecting us to trust him and make huge leaps of faith.

I got that, but she seemed like she was ONLY there for exposition. If her character and scenes were removed the story could have progressed, which you can't say about Yoda or Obi Wan
Can't be that. She clearly said that there's a story behind her getting Luke's light saber. So she must serve a role beyond mere exposition.

I actually read in some interview that Kasden was encouraging him to cut out a lot of exposition, trusting audiences to make the leap--but that was at the script stage.

Ugh. That is terrible.
Also, my friend thought the biggest "plot hole" was "why isnt leia a jedi?"
lol

Perhaps. Our perception of everything will change as we see where the series go and we get the ability to evaluate a moment in the context of its past and future.

Guys, ALL of these characters were only there for exposition. That's all the movie is.

I walked out thinking I could wait until Monday. Now I'm not so sure.
The bottom line is I'm now totally reinvested in star wars in a way I haven't been since I was reading those Thrawn books like 20 years ago. Today was a good day.

So we all loved it yeah?
I heard TWO different people leaving the theatre do the Homer /Vader reveal thing as they left (on hans death)
They were just buzzing and chatting with friends with no conscious awareness that people may be able to hear them but it was annoying and unfair too

Im lit up. I think the movie could also stand on its own in the sense that one wouldnt need to see the OT but it would create a desire to watch it.
It doesnt stand on its own as much as A New Hope, but that is understandable considering ANH was made not knowing if any others would be given the green light.

My wife has never seen the originals from start to finish--so we'll see how she reacts.

Definitely enjoyed it more the second time for physical and realistic reasons.
I wasn't watching it through tears(or as many) and I was able to really listen and absorb it all. Third time tonight and it was a bit hellish
What was I thinking going to a screening at 11pm of a Friday

On that point strat I've been wondering the last few days how awesome it would be to be a little fella and have forc awakens as your first Star Wars film, and then be able o go back and watch the OT as bonus or unrequred reading, just for your own curiosity.
Like finding a new band and discovering they have like 20 years of material
