my sister and brother in law had every dvd except the phantom menace...i borrowed them and watched a new hope tonight...it still holds up for me
i'm off work tomorrow so i'm either going to watch empire strikes back tonight and sleep in, or go to bed a little early and watch it and return of the jedi tomorrow

A: I read his wiki page after posting that and realized my mistake, but didn't bother editing my post. Thank you for pointing it out, though. I hate not know peoples'The Argonaut wrote:First of all, his name is Scoot. Second of all, if a good actor has some scenes that took me out of the zone a little, I would blame the director. And I know LV loves this guy, but I wasn't super impressed with this Monsters or Godzilla-in large part because of occasional tonal or consistency issues. It's def the director at fault here.Kaius wrote:I feel like the posters who really like Scott were offended by what I said, and I guess it could be construed as harsh. Maybe hebisnt "mediocre", but simply average to slightly above average in relation to most of my favorite actors. He had some really good scenes in Monsters, but there were a few that, although not cringeworthy, took me out of "the zone" a little. Overall it was a great performance, I just felt like the director may have played a large role in bringing that out of him.
I forgot he was in Killing Them Softly. He was pretty damn good there as well.
He has my respect, guys. Calm down.
And I'm always excited to see him, but I'd say that the two reasons I like Scoot McNairy so much are Killing Them Softly (as others mentioned) and the AMC series Halt and Catch Fire.
correct names. That is kind of a childish name, huh? It seems like something an uncle would have nicknamed him and it just stuck.
II: you're saying that because you think he is and was a good actor, any performance issues fall on the director. You are certainly a more seasoned movie watcher than myself, so I'm mostly responding out of curiosity and less so from a defensive place, but this raised a couple of questions. Why does his performance in Killing Them Softly (I don't know how far apart they filmed despite the release dates, if it matters), the tv show I haven't seen, or anything else he's been in for that matter mean that he couldn't have struggled in this movie in spots? (Again, I don't want to overstate "his struggles" as I really enjoyed him overall). Likewise, what tonal problems did you have with Monsters, and why are you so confident it was Gareth Edwards fault if his actors underperformed in spots? I read a lot of the extras and supporting cast were locals that lived on location and a good portion of those more intimate scenes early on were improvised. Is that normal? To me, not an expert, that seems like exceptional movie direction to capture those moments.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

She was immaculate. The whole cast was great, though. What a beautiful film.LoathedVermin72 wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:Brooklyn is my winner for best picture (of the things I've seen so far) this year.Loved Brooklyn. Ronan is easily the best performance of the year, for my money.

I liked Cop Car a lot. Interesting, quiet coming of age movie disguised as a thriller. The ending got to me.

I'm watching Steve Jobs.
Fassbender is fantastic. Aaron Sorkin should stick to writing movies; he hasn't written well for television since The West Wing but his movie screenplays are manically entertaining.
