I'm very angry about it. For all of Trump's bullshit, I've been saying the media really is hopelessly corrupt and incompetent for awhile, and now free press itself is endangered.

And for the love of God, someone send Wolf Blitzer to the phantom zone where he belongs. What a human joke.

Donald Trump tapped into the anger of a declining middle class that is sick and tired of establishment economics, establishment politics and the establishment media. People are tired of working longer hours for lower wages, of seeing decent paying jobs go to China and other low-wage countries, of billionaires not paying any federal income taxes and of not being able to afford a college education for their kids - all while the very rich become much richer.
To the degree that Mr. Trump is serious about pursuing policies that improve the lives of working families in this country, I and other progressives are prepared to work with him. To the degree that he pursues racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment policies, we will vigorously oppose him.

I liked my hypothetical Bernie response better. But this is what you'd expect/want out of liberal politicians: agree that we're working to fix some of the same problems, let it be known that we're willing to compromise to pass bipartisan legislation. But make it abundantly clear that the most vile of the campaign rhetoric cannot be in the same room as policy, ever.

One huge problem with Trump's (and, at times, Clinton's) rhetoric about Latinos is that they use the term as if it were a homogeneous group--this goes allllll the way back to Trump's campaign announcement when he talked about the people "Mexico" was sending over, and how he and the media covering him (even critically) simply implied that they were all Mexicans. Latin America is a biiiiiiiiiiiig place, and people are coming in from all over (not to mention Hispanic peoples from the Caribbean). It's similar to the issue when people default to "African American" when discussing black people.

For the love of all that is good, Trump, don't put Christie as AG. That would severely harsh the mellow of one of the rare things many people found good about this election.

I don't smoke, and I don't really care about it as an issue, but I would get a sort of grim satisfaction hearing Trump supporters who support marijuana legalization whine if the Trump justice department cracks down.

Great statement. Why wasn't he the nominee? Oh wait, the Katie Courics and Donna Braziles of the world made sure that wasn't possible. Here's to hoping for the Democratic party's own revolution in 2020.

For trag and others: here's 538's first attempt to ruminate on why the polls missed in so many states and nationally in this election. It'll take a while for all the pollsters to finish their reviews, but you'll notice some consistent themes: under-sampling, low turnout, and maybe "shy" Trump voters, although it appears that pollsters are split on that last idea. The high uncertainty of the election--with so many voters attaching themselves to minor parties at points and being undecided at others--probably also played a role.

A Chilean guy I work with was getting upset at the commentary yesterday. He said the distinction between Latinos was specific. Florida is mostly Cubans and republicans as the democrats are Castro sympathizers. The West coast are mostly Mexicans and Democrats.
