The scenes between Anakin and Padme are painful and that last battle scene is one of the worst-choreographed action sequences ever put on film.
Those scenes are painful, for sure, but I think the action set-pieces in AOTC far exceed anything in ROTS, which is mostly just an irritating slog for me. I love the aerial speeder chase on Coruscant and the rain-soaked Boba Fett/Obi-Wan fight on Kamino. And, to be honest, I think the action finale is pretty spectacular. Lucas knows how to make large-scale action feel LARGE. The way the dust kicks up and we just see clone troopers blasting lasers through suffocating clouds with barely any visibility...kind of awesome.
It does nothing for me. Too many distant shots that focus on the "set piece" as a whole. Characters get lost it becomes all become too LARGE for me. I don't really feel like I'm "in" the action.

In a lot of ways that scene, to me, feels like the precursor to your standard Marvel action sequence, which I absolutely loathe.
I find moments of visceral awe in the scale of that AOTC scene (the giant round blaster thing toppling over, for example). I get no such excitement from Marvel set-pieces.

Other than thinking RotS is a slog, I completely agree with this.

There is a lot to love in AOTC everything LV mentioned for sure except it too clearly looks like a cg fest and it’s dragged down by some really awful stuff too with the characters. But I think it’s always gonna live in my lowest ranking.

Yeah, I can't imagine ever elevating it above last place. And there is a lot in the movie that I enjoy. But I think it's the least overall successful Star Wars film. It's gonna take a real turd to knock it out of last place.

I don’t think we’ll ever get a genuine turd that will elevate it.

Honestly? Obi wans hair in AOTC is my main reason for hating it. It’s fucking horrific.
Worse than TPM puppet Yoda and that was an abortion.

Lucas embracing CGI to the degree he did is one of the things I respect about the prequels. It gives them a personality and it keeps them in line with the frontier filmmaking of the OT.

Oh absolutely! He’s the pioneer in all that stuff. It’s just that he aimed really high here and fell short of it. Or rather his animators did.

I agree with the spirit, for sure. It's just too bad that they look awful.

JUst noticed something cool.
When Leia is using the force to get back to the door, she flies through and splits the holo of Snokes ship. Foreshadowing ahoy
