Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
I definitely think The Doors had a resurgence in the 90's because of that bizarre and hilarious movie. But I haven't personally seen any kind of noticeable backlash since. I wonder if that's not just perception. Feels like Qui-Gon's whole "your focus determines your reality" thing.
But then again what I'm saying is anecdotal/perceptional too. It works both ways. So maybe you're right, Burt. I didn't see or experience what you're talking about but maybe you're right.

Pro-Doors over here too.
'The Doors suck' is definitely the prevailing normie opinion these days.
I don't think it has anything to do with Almost Famous, though I hate that movie.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a criticism of the Doors that doesn't focus on Morrison, e.g. 'I used to think the Doors were cool, then I realised Jim Morrison's lyrics were really dopey and stupid.'
It seems bizarre to me - guys, the Doors music is great!
( * The disproportionate focus on lyrics in rock music is definitely some misguided Boomerism that has hung around way too long, e.g. guys earnestly reading meaning into Dylan's ramblings etc.)

I mean, yes. And yet Jim’s voice (not the lyrics) is essential to the band.Birds in Hell wrote:Pro-Doors over here too.

I tried to quickly blast through the catalogue and got about 4 albums in before I burned out. I don’t think I will ever obsess over them like I can other bands, but overall I fall on the positive side.

I don't seem to recall this venture, did you eventually run through the last two studio efforts?liebzz wrote:I mean, yes. And yet Jim’s voice (not the lyrics) is essential to the band.Birds in Hell wrote:Pro-Doors over here too.

I have not sat down with that level of effort yet, but I may at some point. I haven’t done a proper journey in a while. The Doors would be a very good band to do this with because it won’t just be a lovefest in the way a few of them turned out.oasisfan35 wrote:I don't seem to recall this venture, did you eventually run through the last two studio efforts?liebzz wrote:I mean, yes. I think you would get some enjoyment from the last two records, definitely worth your time. That said, stop with L.A. Woman but include Absolutely Live.liebzz wrote:I have not sat down with that level of effort yet, but I may at some point. I haven’t done a proper journey in a while.
