React / Respond - track 2

A real rocker, sounding superb (cinema helps no doubt)

Also thought 'Scared of fear' - track 1. had a very satisfying rhythm and feel.

Slower song - might have been 'Waiting for Stevie'? In the middle was very beautiful.

Album slowed down towards the end like a few of their recent albums and the lyrics got more philosophical.

I still really like Dark Matter the song too but after multiple lessons it is hard to compare to the other tracks, as that is an advantage.

You probably mean Upper Hand is the slower track. WFS is the anthemic one with the "you can be loved by anyone" lyric.

Out of the new snippets from yesterday, I’m most interested in Won’t Tell and Setting Sun.

Scared of Fear- a rocker with groove. KOL Aha Heartbreak like guitar opening. Eddie singing in almost a Black, Red, Yellow voice. Somewhat reminiscent of No Code but not really. Mike and Matt shine. The song slows down and picks back up.

React, Respond. - rocker. love the Mike solo at the end. Not in love with the chorus but Ed sounds great. I love the laughing(?) part going into the solo

Wreckage- a radio hit if they want it. Melodic. Will get in your head. Ed soars towards the end. It’s lovely really. Some may not like it for being a commercial type song

Won’t Tell- a monster. Another “hit” if they want it imo. Chorus is huge and easily relatable. Sounds a little like the Edge playing guitar at the end. Ed soars. My early favorite

Upper hand- atmospheric but again speeds up at the end and will be fun live. Many have written a lot about it. Still hasn’t hit me yet but get it. Ed does a great job, soaring.

WFS- yeah it’s good. I don’t really hear 90’s PJ like some others. Ed soaring again(a theme)Mike plays the shit out of it at the end. Will be great live. Main guitar riff sounds a little like Duran Duran for some reason to me

Something Special- another radio song if they want. Say what you want about the lyrics. It’s catchy af. I like the lyric about having to let go.

Got to Give- early least favorite. But stilll a driving song that has potential to grow. Others have used the word Americana and I see that

Setting sun- Was in my head this morning. “Am I the only one hanging on”. And “ if you could see what I see you would find a way to stay” or something along those lines. A lovely song that grows with each listen. Great ending to a great record

I can’t wait to read lyrics tonight. Some of the lyrics I have caught onto seem to imply Ed is looking back at the beginning and contemplating he is the last man standing, a little but maybe not.

I am excited for those who have not heard it to hear it.

I will say this too. I got a little emotional listening to this about the 4-5 time. If you are a fan of this band, which all of you are, many from the beginning, you root for them. And I found myself saying “after all this time, they f-in did it!” I have loved all of their records but I would be lying if I didn’t say Binuaral thru Gig was a mixed bag. Still know every song and love those albums but this is different. There is an energy and freshness that has been missing. Like I said before there are individual songs on those earlier albums that may be better but there is something about the way these songs are played, the song structures, the band dynamics, Ed’s lyrical choices and they way he is singing that feels right in a way that is hard to explain.

Someone here needs to grab that crying baby track from the interlude between WFS and Running from the phone recording and overlay onto the final digital album track. Otherwise there will always be a little hole in my heart for the absence, it hits so well right there. Actual album will now always feel incomplete to me right there.

I’m also expecting this with the car horn from the metal door leak as Something Special is starting.

I can totally relate to this....had the same emotional reaction to Gigaton after the Who Ever Said to Seven O'Clock run. I've been holding out on Dark Matter, ive taken in the samples but passed on the cargo shorts leak. Cannot wait for this thing to leak proper or worst case scenario this Friday.

As with gigaton, I receive this album under the expectation that it is probably the last.

And I receive it with surprise. Wouldn’t have thought that I would be getting more Pearl Jam music in the year 2024, nor that any music I did get would reach as far as they still regularly reach.

I really feel like Olé would have fit really well on here.

I can hear it in Running a good bit.
