So she targets a hot topic persecuted minority (trans people) for over a year, then when challenged, hides behind her right to have an opinion and uses being criticised for that And having republican right wing views, comparing it to the plight of persecuted Jews in Nazi germany.

That’s it long and the short of it. And it’s indefensible. It’s not her free speech being attacked. Nor her rights.
It’s thinly veiled hate speech and using actual atrocities as a comparable to her scenario in order to gain further notoriety and to bring clueless morons of a similar mindset to get her back and support her, is just reprehensible.

It’s that simple.

Ps Disney didn’t ‘bow’ to anything. They’re protecting their interests and profit margin. Ffs gay people didn’t exist according to them until mid 90s. You would be escorted from their Parks if you were wearing a pride flag T-shirt or anything like it not that long ago. Cos that’s what good ole American Christian values demanded at the time. The focus has shifted and they can’t be seen to ally with hate groups or a far right ideology, so they fired her.
It certainly was not ‘bowing’ to any one or any pressure from people.
You’re an idiot if you think that’s the case.

Anybody on this board can Google “Gina Carano tweets” and see what she wrote. The only point to stomping your foot and demanding that dime post them here (something you could do in a minute) is that you feel it will prove a point....that the tweets “weren’t all that bad,” and that the woke mob is the actual toxic presence here.

But the thing is, the woke mob didn’t fire anyone. Disney fired Gina Carano. And as it stands, Disney has the right to fire Gina Carano for saying trans people “need to find less abusive representation,” or for publicly commenting on Jeffrey Epstein’s death, or saying there was mass voter fraud in a presidential election. These are things that a company like Disney has every right to fire her for saying, especially after they had a ‘come to Jesus’ discussion with her and she continued doing it.

Corporations are cutthroat entities that will look out for their best interest, and faced with a nuanced and complex societal change they will absolutely Potato Head it, every time. They will miss the point, they will make a big show of enacting token changes that nobody asked for, and they will slap a “daring” same sex kiss way in the background of a scene where they can easily remove it for the Chinese audience, if that’s what it takes to get their money.

So the point is, as long as corporations CAN fire you for a tweet, they will. Any tool they are permitted to use, they will use. The question remains the same as it was on page one: what do you, a person who believes this firing was wrong, think should be done to stop this from happening? What preventative change should be advocated for?

Simply untrue:

What I oppose is assertion without evidence. So if it’s so easy, show me the over a years worth of targeting trans people.

I’m trying - and failing - to make sense of this.

Anyway this thread wouldn’t be 24 pages already if Carano wasn’t really hot.
I looked up some more recent photos, and I stand corrected (by myself). Meh.

From what I have seen of her tweets, this seems like hyperbole. Not the long and the short of it at all.

It’s only when someone has opinions that you don’t agree with, that the concept of tolerating a difference of opinion (or free speech) has any meaning at all. People wanting her fired for her tweets are the ones that are on the wrong side of that issue.

Disney could remove her from The Mandalorian, and they did (I don’t think that’s the debate we are having). That doesn’t make removing someone because of their political opinions the right thing to do.

Thankfully, that’s my constitutional right in Norway, and no grounds for being fired here.

For stating your opinion? No.

As an example; there are jobs where an employer can demand that someone wears a mask. If they don’t, that could be grounds for firing them.

If they tweeted publically that this was stupid, and that they were against it, or gave their opinion at a meeting, that wouldn’t matter. It would not be grounds for firing them.

Anders it is that simple. She’s perfectly entitled to have her opinions. Shitty or otherwise.
She’s not allowed wave them around if theyre bigoted and pose an actual threat to peoples lives or health, either through anti trans violence (on the rise in the US in particular) or anti mask comments
Especially while representing a company. Fine it doesn’t happen that way in Norway. It does in other places though. Europe and the US in particular. Everywhere has a social media policy. Most people have common sense and decency.

‘Family sue Disney and Lucasfilm after daughters death due to covid when Mandalorian Star Gina coranos anti mask tweets lead to her refusing to wear them. Corano was a hero to the Daughter and followed every word she said’

Some version of that headline could have easily happened. It’s America. They sue for hundreds of millions if you as much as look at them sideways.

Equally, her anti trans tweets could bring about any of her considerable fan base attacking trans people. That crowd aren’t exactly the smartest or most reasonable. See the capitol riots (which she cheered on) for evidence.

Have your shitty opinions. Fine. You don’t get to put others in danger with them. That’s all. That’s the line. And she crossed it repeatedly even after being asked to stop.
A crucial point you and others seem to be missing or ignoring.

You just said more transphobic shit in this thread than she has said in her entire life. And, again, where is the proof that she has been saying the things you claim? You're reduced to falling back on pretending you're a mind reader who knows what she REALLY thinks. You have no fucking idea.

You are right about Disney not bowing to anything, though. Wokeism is an ideology they actively want to promote. It benefits people in power. The entire worldview is custom made to benefit the ultra wealthy. On top of that, normalizing the idea that your boss can fire you over harmless tweets benefits them. And you're worried about an actress's tweets?

Yes, she is, in fact, and I don't recognize your authority to determine where someone's speech "poses an actual threat to peoples lives or health". And legally speaking, speech that isn't allowed in the US is very rigidly defined and her comments in no way comes close to meeting that criteria. You have no idea what you're talking about.
dimejinky99 wrote: either through anti trans violence (on the rise in the US in particular)
this is a myth.
dimejinky99 wrote: Especially while representing a company. Fine it doesn’t happen that way in Norway. It does in other places though. Europe and the US in particular. Everywhere has a social media policy. Most people have common sense and decency.
You really want to base free speech on only that which is based on decency? As decided by who? You get a little power and suddenly you think that you'll have you hand on the censor button forever. You have absolutely no idea what free speech means. It's absolutely not based on "decency" lol. Quite the opposite.

Good luck with that lawsuit, but you seem to be saying here that Disney has to fire her for liability reasons. Does that suggest that you think its ridiculous for Disney to have these liabilities? Of course it is, but even in sue happy America, Disney isn't liable for someone's private tweets.
dimejinky99 wrote: Equally, her anti trans tweets could bring about any of her considerable fan base attacking trans people. That crowd aren’t exactly the smartest or most reasonable. See the capitol riots (which she cheered on) for evidence.
This argument can be used by anyone to stifle speech. The bar for proof here is so low, it doesn't exist at all. You could argue that anything anyone says could hypothetically lead to violence without needing to prove any causality whatsoever. Instant, evidence free justification! Again, you have no idea what free speech means or why it's protected.[/quote]

Words are the worse violence there is in the 21st century. Biden dropping bombs on Brown people, barely makes the news. But words, those are the true violence we have to stamp out.

Seems to me that an RM board user has made a claim that bi_3 would like them to back up. The tweets weren't, in fact, "all that bad", and dime is proof that at least to some degree, the woke mob does exist.

The fact that they warned her not to go against them is irrelevant, I don't know why you keep bringing that up. Of course she knew they might fire her if she continued to ignore their bullshit policy. No one is saying otherwise. And she did it anyway. Good for her. It's good to ignore stupid policies when one can. This does not mean that she had it coming.

One small thing is to at least speak out against it. To refuse to normalize the practice. And not deflect with "what's the big deal!? It's just an actress" and "no one complains until it happens to a conservative".

And not that I think boycotts are effective, but at some point one has to have enough self respect to try to avoid giving money to people who hate you and want to see you destroyed. That's not often possible these days, but one can at least cancel the trip to Disney World.

Beyond that? Tough question.
