I come back to this thread in a couple of hours and what do I see, has someone left the fucking water running?

I'm wondering if the Wet Bandits in Home Alone were Ed's inspiration for this song.

this thread is reminding me how much about PJ I've happily tolerated even if it wasn't my ideal, because I'm able to look at a thing's strengths... literally since Dave A left; I'm still doing it in 2024 with people who seem to have only just realised PJ is a frustratingly malleable beast

This is the last I’ll say on the topic.

The quality is good enough across streaming platforms that many won’t notice the difference.

So Apple is blowing you away with bit rate (which by the way they still have not released this actual #), but it doesn’t matter due to diminishing returns. Then of course you’re listening through the shittiest EQ presets I could ever dream of.

You can absolutely hear the difference if you have a quality setup.

What are your Spotify EQ settings?

The differences are DE MINIMIS to most. You EQ settings have a much, much bigger effect on what you hear past 320 kbps.

STIP has my settings. They're what I use for PJ but I have others for other genres. I start using the RB default and then go from there. Of course, this is all somewhat subjective but I think there is some objective range of settings that represents a sweet spot for PJ.

you're not wrong. We have this conversation every 50 pages or so (and just did a week or two ago so fairly recently). The people who need to internalize it generally don't. Some have enough positive qualities to justify pushing through. Like an Andrew Watt mix
