mjd, I mean this sincerely: you might want to spend some time expanding your musical horizons beyond Pearl Jam, Guns N Roses, and Meat Loaf before you go any further with these discussions. For your own good.

If I started a thread series where people recommended you music, and you listened and posted your thoughts, would you do it?

I know some Sonic Youth. Kool Thing I despise (though its fun to play drums on in Rock Band). I also hated Incinerate. Teenage Riot was pretty decent though. Nice enough.

No, we'll be sure to give a specific song, set of songs, or album for you. I want it to be easy.

I don't really think complexity or simplicity in isolation are good or bad things (Long Road and Release come to mind as doing a hell of a lot with a hell of a little), but to pin 'Evacuation' down to basically being 'the same guitar chord' for 90 percent of the song...regardless of whatever one thinks about the quality of the song, that's just plain not the case.

Good post.
I would add that, especially with Pearl Jam, complexity is hardly a reason for any of their song to be disliked because i don't think there is a song of theirs difficult enough for that argument to stand.

Listening to this album right now. Breakerfall - Evacuation really require one's close attention to be fully appreciated. They're great songs, 3 of my favorites, but if you're not paying real close attention, I can see how they might be easy to cast aside, as so many seem to do.

I was a fan of Binaural when it came out, even if i realized at the time it was a difficult album...but it took me a while to realize how good Evacuation is. My god, those guitars...those drums...its fuckin amazing. The same with every one of the rockers from this album...Stone and Mike sound so tight.
And Matt...best Matt album.
