I think people's interest in the record (or patience for it) will generally fall onto whether you can find things to like in a record where their ambition sometimes reaches further than their grasp. I really enjoy those kinds of records, but already I'm not sure the songwriting's going to hold up quite as well as some of their other albums (and it's not surprising that they wrote this separately; some of the songs do sound stitched together).
Well said.

Wait, is that song about Kavenaughs accuser? That would make it just a boring song, not a boring and lame song.

Ok. I've now listened to this record 7 times.

It's officially incredible. Holy shit!

Reach Out and Ruins are the early favorites from the songs we hadn't heard yet. As others have said, Corin is the MVP here.

I'm not a big old school S-K fan, so I'm coming at this from a different angle. But I think this record is incredible. Legit wonderful and moving.

As a huge St Vincent fan, I think I might like this more than either of Annie's last 2 records.

Corin´s voice has reached a new level, once again.

This record is everything. I can't believe how much it's resonating with me. The Dog/The Body is the best anthem I've heard in a decade or more. It's a revelation. It's rapturous. It gives me all the feels and I can tell already it'd going to end up being one of my favorite songs of all time.

I am a big old school SK fan, but I'm also loving this album.

By old school I mean Dig Me Out and on, haven't given the first two albums much time.

:bammer:

Glad to hear it. I feel like most of the old schoolers aren't feeling it. Zeb and I were chatting about in on Facebook and he was expecting something else. We'll see how it ages for everyone. But right now I'm completely in love with it. I honestly can't remember the last album that I was this into. Maybe 3 by HoneyHoney back in 2015?

Yeah, this album is very good. I like No Cities to Love but this is better. Again I totally see how someone that’s really invested in their old stuff could just hate it. But if you can drop all the extraneous baggage about Janet, St. Vincent & the old records I think it’s objectively a really solid album.

There’s like 2 moments where the guitar sounds exactly like St. Vincent, but other than that I don’t notice much connection to Annie’s music.

I thought the same. There are a couple of times where I'd swear Annie is playing.

I also really dig the production on this. The vinyl sounds wonderful.
