That’s from 4 months after his inauguration in 2017.

Look at the tone and optimistic opinions a month ago:

Trump has fucked this up royally, close to being criminally liable, but humanity wasn’t ready

I doubt anyone would have been able to initiate stay-at-home orders back in January or Feb even if a competent President was in office

you would have to convince state governors to sacrifice at least 3 million+ jobs to prevent a few thousand deaths, etc etc... the standard rebuttal would be flu kills X people per year car accidents kill x people per year etc... you might make some traction in discussion but inevitably no one would pull the trigger until people actually start getting sick en masse

regardless

the real crime here (aside from Trump's SOP of being an incompetent asshole) is decades of starvation of the American people of a healthcare system that works for them - and instead propping up an absurd high-margin for-profit system. regulators mercilessly attacked banks following 2008 (and many deserved it) and basically ignored every other industry. the health care / heath insurance complex in the U.S. is only rivaled by the Student Loan Mafia in its wild west usurious insanity that has managed to escape regulatory intervention year-after-year as Americans are brutally ripped off effectively indenturing themselves for life for what is often substandard healthcare / education quality

now that we need a healthcare system that can actually help large quantities of americans, rather than just a wealthy subset, society is at risk of breaking

the only silver lining coming from this after swaths of hospitals break down and doctors die is the opportunity that the shit-sucking healthcare industry gets a massive rebuild into one that doesn't pose a national security threat due to its fundamental inadequacy for 90%+ of the population

It just illustrates how clueless he is about pandemics. Fire the pros, cut the funding. Then, when COVID19 comes you end up looking pretty fucking stupid.
I think I maybe posted this already? Anyway

I'm no expert, but I tend to trust the experts. Tough to trust them when they're not hired.
Then I have failed in my role as teacher and mentor.
Mentor and teacher?

It's not just the CDC, either The pandemic response team was gutted too. Maybe I need mentoring and teaching, but I think a pandemic response team might be useful during, you know, a pandemic.

Well, he could have replenished the stockpile he says Obama left empty. The guy is repeating every day how unprepared the government was for this as if he wasn't in charge the last 3+ years.

There were also 200 million fewer people in the USA during that time. For perspective.

He was on Worst Year Ever recently. I wasn't impressed by him on there either. He seems really disconnected from reality.

An airline specific bailout package could be announced as soon as today.
Honestly though, how long do you think people are going to stay away from wanting to sit in a metal tube with a 100+ other people for a couple hours?
Actually, you can ask that about crowds in general, like going to see live music or a sporting event. Or stand in a security line. Or even go to a shopping mall or popular restaurant?

That's great.

And the reason the "deserve" it is because they made a bet that didn't pay off. There is no moral obligation to pay off their bad bet.

"But it's a natural disaster!"

Fuck you, pay me.
